well first of all, "thumper", it's not YOUR team

second, what did Deion ever do wrong to "your" team? I clearly recall him being an essential part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 1995

and the jury is still out on Terrell Owens over here, and I doubt he gives a **** whether or not "Thumper" cares for him, and guess what?

We don't either

Harsh...

I am still upset that we missed out on Keith Brooking in that draft. He was the guy I wanted and couldn't believe he was still there when we were up. Then we passed on him and took Ellis instead, it was very upsetting to me.

Ellis has been a good player for us but he is not a difference maker and that was what we needed. Brooking fit that role much better than Ellis has.

I never wanted Moss just like I never wanted Deion or Owens. I don't like those type of players and don't want them on my team regardless of how talented they might be.
Amen and Amen! Well said.

Dallas smokescreened with Moss who they scratched off the list because he was too like Irvin off the field.

They really wanted Grant Wistrom.

When he was gone they tried to trade down but got nothing decent offered and did not want to move down below Ellis.

In the end I believe we made the right decision.
Moss truggled in Minny and would have been on a larger stage with more distractions in Dallas.

That one pick has nothing to do with why we haven't won playoff games. Its all the other picks we traded away or chose guys no longer in the NFL.

Judging by what the teams in the first 21 drafted and how many of them still have that player on their roster... I say we did just fine. Plus 3 guys taken before Ellis aren't even in the league anymore.

By my count, Manning, Ellis, Taylor, and Brooking are the only ones still with the team that drafted them. Had we drafted Moss I doubt he would still be here. We made some draft mistakes no doubt, but it's hard to complain about this one. I think the whole "Cowboys Passing on Moss" thing is mostly Moss's making... he felt shafted.
Yup. What seems to get missed by the guys crying about Ellis not being a stud is that it was a crap draft. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th picks barely drew nfl checks.

In 1996, we took Clay Shiver over Terrel Owens. In 1994, we took Shante Carver over Issac Bruce. In 2001, we took Tony Dixon over Steve Smith.

It can't just be that we needed a WR and didn't take one. You never hear fans complaining about passing on those guys.

Quite a few Cowboys fans wanted moss, and we were rumored to have targeted him before the draft began. None of those receivers named above had a rookie season like Moss, blasting nearly every rookie wr record to date. Also, the money and draft picks spent on Galloway and Ismail couldve addressed other needs.

Someone else said Moss probably still wouldnt be here...Greg Ellis is still here and Jerry doesnt let superstars leave.

That's exactly my point. I agree 100% with that statement. Which is why it doesn't make any sense that "Cowboys passing on Moss" is such an undying story.
This is most definitely the non-story that won't go away. But it comes down to one thing; Jerry Jones as much as told the world that he was going to take Randy Moss and then didn't. Randy took it personally (much like Merriman did last year) and the story just won't die and probably never will.

No I wouldn't.

Just to bring you up to date, Keith Brooking has been to 5 consecutive Pro-Bowls. Ellis is still waiting for his first. Even though I like Ellis I'd take Brooking over him any day.

Hmmm, you were wrong on both counts, maybe you should stick to what you know something about next time kid.

Randy is a great player, but i'm glad we passes on him, cause of all the problems that he can cause.

I agree Thumper; we could have done better and Greg Ellis has not lived up to the #8 pick we spent on him. However, I Do Not lament the pick all that much since he has been solid and we certainly could have done worse (like actually taking Moss IMO).

And I'm right there with you on our team picking up Deion and Owens. The thing with Deion was not so much that we needed him; we just needed the 49ers not to have him because they were close enough to us at the time that he could make the difference. Like Owens he had talent if you could afford the price and live with the freak show.

I actually think Randy Moss saw himself as the next Michael Irvin. Many thought Aikman needed a good wide receiver to replace Irvin. Moss was considered to have rare talent and would be an impact player. He also had a troubled history and no one knew if he was going to implode or not. The off-the-field problems had resulted in a lot of bad publicity for the Cowboys and that thinking was also in the mix during that draft.

The Cowboys went with Ellis and Moss saw that as a huge slap to him. It was. It was a good story for the media and they never let Moss forget it for a long time. My memory is a bit cloudy but I believe Aikman, while not commenting publicly, was rumored to have expressed disgust over the state of his receivers. Not having someone like Moss may have shortened his career a bit. Thst part of the story has also led to the continuing rumble about the selection.

Based upon results would you rather have Ellis or Moss?

Because that's who Randy, himself, thought he was going to. It doesn't really matter what anybody else said or thought, Randy thought he was going to be a Cowboy and wanted to be a Cowboy and then wasn't a Cowboy. He's just the most outspoken of anyone taken in that draft, had the biggest impact (some could say) and his "thing" is that Dallas did NOT draft him after him expecting to come here. Nobody else put those words out there, Randy was the one that did it. And like everytime we play him, he brings it up, which inturn fuels the media on the subject. Don't forget, too, the fact that it truly is like he has a vendetta against us for passing on him, and that's just solely based on his earth-shattering over-the-top performances he's had against us everytime we play him.

Many Titans fans have made a big deal about taking Dyson over Moss for a long time.

I believe Jerry told Moss he would be a Cowboy if he was still on the board, then they passed on him and Moss has been torching us ever since.

We can twist it anyway we want but I for one would of loved to see Aikman tossing it around to Moss and Irvin. It didnt happen and thats life but you cant tell me Ellis has won this team more games then Moss would of. Moss has had some issues but nothing that you couldnt live with to get what he brings to the table on Sunday. In reality he isnt the first player we shouldnt of passed on and he wont be the last, thats the nature of the draft.

Sure you would'nt

pro-bowls or not, does'nt necessarily mean you were the best at your given position (ie: mike vick)

Moss would've been the better pick over both of them...KID!!!
