Guys,

I live in Ohio so my opportunity to watch Trent Murphy was limited. However, youtube videos of him reminds me of JJ Watt. I like Kony Ealy, but I like him just as much. I know there were discussions prior but I think we can grab a solid DE very early. I think there more options at DT later in the draft.

Ehh Murphy doesn't have nearly the power or explosion that Watt has. Murphy is a very good all around player, but I question what his ceiling is as a 4-3 DE. I think he's more suited to play the strong side OLB in the 3-4. I think somewhere between Connor Barwin and Paul Kruger is a better comparison.

Agree. I don't see the power or explosion of Watt. He looks more of a plodder and less athletic. He's a good player, but nothing special. IMO

They're both 6-6 white guys that play DL; otherwise, no.

Maaaybe. If I knew nothing about him and just looked at Murphy's face, I would have guessed DT or OL. I think he's got room to get bigger and still retain his nimbleness.

Watt was once a 245 lbs TE at Central Michigan and added 15 lbs a year once transferring to Wisconsin. I think Murphy has a little room to grow but not as much as a 19 year old. The comparison I'd make is Justin Smith, who was 265 or so when he left Missouri and is now playing around 280-285.

Well, for size sake, Murphy measured in at 6'5", 252. That's a good 10lbs. less than I thought he would weigh. However, I could see him adding 10-15 easily.

Like I said, youtube videos can be deceiving. The videos I watch, I saw him bull rush the tackles back in QBs quite abit. Thanks

No one in the world truly compares with JJ Watt.

Watt is 35 pounds heavier about probably twice as strong as Murphy who is probably a round 2-3 draft pick.

People underestimate how dominate a round 2 or 3 guy looks versus ordinary college OL.

When you total up the combine numbers my guess is any comparison between Watt and Murphy will seem like pure madness.

Murphys motor and his ability to disrupt any play from ouside with his hand on the ground or standing up remnds me of Watt. The guy just never stops. But Murphy needs to get stronger. He acknowledged this yesterday on a interview he gave for edraft. Dallas is looking at him tho, McClay was watching 4 players yesterday and Murphy was one of them.

I'll be physically ill if they take Murphy before the third.

Trent Murphy is much closer to Bobby Carpenter than JJ Watt.

That sounds like a vicious slam but is really just the honest truth..

Watt is a couple times all pro already and quickly emerging as the best 3-4DE in history.

Murphy is not athletic enough to be a pure OLB so is at best a slightly less athletic Anthony Spencer.

Brandon Williams and Victor Butler both ate offenses in college....

I have not seen enough to form a professional scouting opinion on Murphy but I would have thought he would be a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder.
