THE 10 BIGGEST STORIES OF THE COWBOYS' OFF-SEASON: It’s easy to forget what happened back in January and throughout an entire NFL off-season, so SportsDayDFW.com special contributor Jon Machota is here to bring you back up to speed. Here are the 10 biggest stories of the Cowboys’ 2013 off-season.

DAVID MOORE

Before the week is over, the Cowboys will escape the sweltering Texas heat for Oxnard’s cool embrace.

But that doesn’t mean the heat will subside for a franchise that has failed to make the playoffs for three consecutive years.

Owner Jerry Jones vowed to make the off-season uncomfortable at Valley Ranch, and it was. While personnel changes were minimal, the coaching staff underwent an extreme makeover that yielded a new defensive scheme and a different offensive play caller for 2013.

Optimism will run higher than the 69-degree temperature that is expected to greet the team when it lands on California soil Friday afternoon. Before training camp breaks on Aug. 16, the Cowboys will take the practice field 38 times to help determine if that positive outlook is justified.

This franchise has plenty of questions to address before it returns home. The most pressing:

Four new starters have taken over in the offensive line since Jason Garrett became head coach in November of 2010.

excited for this year. I love the young talent this roster has. I would like to see Dallas sign Brandon Moore to a 1 year deal to start at LG because he is an upgrade over whoever else they can line up there. Smith-Moore-Fredricks-Leary(I'm expecting big things from this kid)- Free or Parnell is a pretty solid line, actually above average. The 1-year deal for Moore would buy us another offseason to address LG for the longterm. Beside that I really like the depth on this roster.

My only problem with signing vets like Moore is they are progress stoppers and take up a roster spot. That can be a good thing at times though.

The interior of the line will receive the most attention. It’s imperative that first-round pick Travis Frederick anchor the center position. If he can’t, it’s hard to see how this group is much better than last season’s.
If healthy, it's hard to see how this group won't be much better than last season.
