Questions about LB depth?

LBs seemed to switch around a lot this season due to injuries. We know RoMc is a Mike and Lee can play Mike and Will. Where are the others' best fits?

1. Anthony Hitchens. Utility back up or starter next year? Which position did he excel at the most this year?

2. Bruce Carter. Did he not play better at SAM, especially towards the end of the season? Or is he better at Will?

3. Justin Durant. SAM or Will?

4. Cameron Lawrence

5. Kyle Wilber

Like him as a utility guy and eventual starter.

2. Bruce Carter. Did he not play better at SAM, especially towards the end of the season? Or is he better at Will?
SAM seemed to reduce his weaknesses in coverage. Unless he signs cheap, I think it's time to move on.

3. Justin Durant. SAM or Will?
Seems like a great locker room guy. If contract is reasonable bring him back as key reserve and rotational guy. With Lee and possibly a returning McClain having injury concerns, it would be smart to have TWO top reserves like Durant and Hitchens.

4. Cameron Lawrence
Hot garbage.

5. Kyle Wilber
Try hard guy who doesn't really fit as a 4-3 LB IMO. No reason to get rid of him, but I'd like to see the team use him as a pass-rushing DE on obvious passing downs. Very poor man's Bruce Irvin. If he's your 6th LB, he's okay.

I actually think Lee would be a good fit at SLB even though he will most likely play WLB if McClain stays.

Combination of Lee, McClain, Durant, Hitchins, Carter and if need be, rotate them as they can play more than one position at LB. Let them compete in camp for the starters.
Though McClain at MLB is a given if he is signed.
I wouldnt mind Carter coming back at all. But I think he tests the FA market firsts.

Then draft and / or FA to replace Lawrence and / or Wilber. But also will be determined if they keep 6 or 7 at LB.

I think this is the most interesting position this year because we have so many options between FA (RoMc, Carter, Durant) and guys in the top of the draft who can help us (Dawson, Kendricks, Perryman.

I would not be surprised to lose RoMc in Free Agecy and use a 1st or 2nd to draft a LB.

Didn't we also just sign Lawrence to a 1 year deal?

I think he can be replaced. But the coaches seem to like him. He is great on ST's but at times looked lost while in on defense. But he has been moved around, and from 4-3 to 4-3, played different positions and responsibilities in each.
So maybe he shows this year why they like him. Since they have him set in a role now.

As I said I think he can be replaced, but willing to see what he can do and if he improves. I hope he can.

Bruce Carter SAM, Rolando MLB, Sean Lee WILL. Wilbur is the backup SAM and Hitchens will backup Rolando and Lee.

I love that. As much as I like Durant, I think it would be smart to try to bring back McClain and Carter. Carter just turned 26 a few weeks ago and McClain isn't turning 26 for a few months. Even if Lee gets healthy, he'll be 29 when the season starts. And Durant will turn 30 during the season. We have the pieces to put together a strong young LBer corps. It would be stupid to let the young guys go and try to fix something in the draft that isn't broken.

Starter at any of the 3 positions.

He played primarily at SLB and that was his best spot. I don't know if they re-sign him. Marinelli twice made statements that were basically calling out Carter and I don't remember Marinelli doing that with any other players.

3. Justin Durant. SAM or Will?
Backup at all positions.

4. Cameron Lawrence
Special Teams or Home Depot.

5. Kyle Wilber
Mostly Special Teams, Backup SLB and occasion DE.

Preferably McClain at MLB, Lee at WLB and Carter at SLB. Hitchens is your utility/nickel LB. Wilbur seems out of position as a LB but always seems to do an adequate job. I find it hard to believe we can't find a young 4-3 LB better than Lawrence, special teams or base D.
