Very quick, and totally off the cuff.

Free Agency Signings:
  1. Tony Fiammetta, FB
  2. Chris Myers, C
  3. Abram Elam, S
  4. Paul Soliai, NT

The Draft: David DeCastro is mocked to the Panthers again, giving Cam Newton some offensive line help to keep him upright. The Cowboys, opting instead to trade down and acquire an extra 2nd, make the following picks.

1. Cordy Glenn, G, Georgia -- moving into the back part of round 1 in order to acquire an extra 2nd round pick, the Cowboys select Cordy Glenn. Tyron and Doug flip spots, and Montrae Holland battles Bill Nagy in camp for the final starting OG spot.

2a. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia -- the Cowboys do some good selecting here in order to shore up the secondary. Rather than overspend in free agency for a CB, they opt to go cheaper and younger and add some talented players to the roster. Minnifield battles...

2b. Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech -- ...and Orlando Scandrick for the starting spot opposite of Mike Jenkins. Hosley is an amazing athlete who excels in zone coverage playing facing the ball. He also returns punts and kicks, so if he ends up the "odd man out" at CB, he'll still see the field in a useful role.

3. T.Y. Hilton, WR/KR, Florida Int'l -- The Cowboys select a small, shifty WR to challenge for the slot WR position. Hilton also adds some challenge in there for our other guys on the roster, Harris and Holley.

4. Nick Jean-Baptiste, NT, Baylor -- massive space eater that can get Ratliff to slide to DE and extend Ratliff's career (all those double teams are doing a number on Rat's back). J-B can come in and more than likely start, and at least challenge for the starting spot. All we need him to do is push the pocket.

. . .

Only 4 rounds here...lets get it poppin!

I cant see Jean-Baptist going in the 4th round in any circumstance. Hes really not that good, and would make nothing more than a back-up/platoon player. Also, 2 CB's in the 2nd when we already have Jenkins and Scandrick is overkill. Give me an OLB pass rusher specialist like Bruce Irvin or Andre Branch in the 2nd and I'd be very happy with the situation.

I am intrigued by Hilton but think they go Adams instead if it came down to it. Baptiste was on the same bus as Ta'amu at the bowl game. Keep your eye on Akiem Hicks for the DL.

i'll take the first 4 picks.

T.Y. Hilton is going to be a good pro.

I like some...but don't like what it would mean our secondary is going to look like. Church and/or McCray can easily take Elam's spot and from what I've read Hosely doesn't fit in our scheme at all.

This also means that Butler is starting opposite of Ware.

I like this in theory, but I think I'd change a few pieces.

Love the Soliai pick. That would make FA season a success IMO.

I'm told the Cowboys are strongly considering starting Church. New DB coach Henderson likes him.

I like Norman and Boykin much better than Hosley. Why are we signing Soliai in FA and then taking a NT in the draft? We don't have the luxury of double dipping at a position like that. We still have plenty of holes to fill on the defensive side of the ball.

I love your first three picks! But I'd rather have Minnifield and Boykin over Hosley.

By not resigning Spencer you would be putting all your eggs in the Butler basket and that would be a very risky move. You don't know what you have in the guy and virtually no one to back him up.

Minnifield and Hosley are both poor fits..both much better suited for cover 2 schemes

I am surprised at how little Casey heyward is thrown around. He is a very good corner option and could be there in the 3rd.

Hosely, maybe, but Minnifield played a TON of man this year.

I like to over-analyze mock drafts...so here goes...

Free Agency Signings:

Tony Fiammetta, FB
Yes.
Chris Myers, C
I watched a few Houston games specifically to see Myers. He is excellent in that zone scheme. The question is how much zone is Dallas going to run.
Abram Elam, S
I was hoping for an upgrade, but I can live with Elam for a 1 year deal.
Paul Soliai, NT
I'm not that impressed with this guy. Costa played well against him.

There is a good chance of Glenn being off the board in the late 1st. Physically, he is probably more talented than DeCastro; however, his question marks are awareness, work ethic and keeping his weight in check. I like that he can also play some RT if needed.

2a. Chase Minnifield, CB, Virginia -- the Cowboys do some good selecting here in order to shore up the secondary. Rather than overspend in free agency for a CB, they opt to go cheaper and younger and add some talented players to the roster. Minnifield battles...
Safe pick, IMO. He played some man, but appears to be better in zone.

2b. Jayron Hosley, CB, Virginia Tech -- ...and Orlando Scandrick for the starting spot opposite of Mike Jenkins. Hosley is an amazing athlete who excels in zone coverage playing facing the ball. Maybe the best ballhawk, but I don't think he will run very well at the combine. Small CBs need to run really fast to be taken in the 2nd round, IMO. If Dallas takes two CBs in the 2nd, I want 1 of them to be either T. Johnson or Josh Norman. That would give them 1 safe player (Minnefield in this case) that could contribute right away and 1 high-upside player that probably needs more time to adjust because of their small school background.

3. T.Y. Hilton, WR/KR, Florida Int'l -- The Cowboys select a small, shifty WR to challenge for the slot WR position. Hilton also adds some challenge in there for our other guys on the roster, Harris and Holley.
I think he will be available in the 4th.

I don't think he will get drafted. Also, I think the Boys are looking for more passrushers on the DL. Josh Brent can plug the run if they want to
move Rat to DE.

Ok, then I really don't understand bringing back Elam at all.
