I understand where some of the negativity comes from. Beating a 1-4 team by 5 points doesn't sound like much, right? I'll admit I wasn't initially thrilled with the overall performance myself (other than the $500 I won thanks to Bailey's spread-covering 4th field goal), but let's take a closer look at the Panthers 2012 season...
Week 1... lost at Tampa Bay 16-10.
Week 2... won vs New Orleans 35-27.
Week 3... lost vs New York Giants 36-7, their only bad loss this year.
Week 4... lost at Atlanta 30-28.
Week 5... lost vs Seattle 16-12.
Week 6... bye.
They were 1-4 entering the game but they were only terrible in one of those losses. Their loss to Dallas was their 3rd straight game in which they lost by 5 points or less vs a team with a winning record. AND they had a bye week to prepare for us.
The standings can be deceiving but Carolina is no patsy. Ask the 6-0 Falcons. They'll compete all year and will beat some playoff-caliber teams.
So I'll take the W with a smile. :starspin Bring on the Giants.
