Tech varied the look of their fronts. They played some 3-4 looks and primarily a 4-3 look with one or both DE(s) standing up.
In the 3-4 looks, Bush played as a 5-tech (3-4 DE). In the 4-man line, he played as a 3-tech DT. I never saw him as a DE in a true 4-3 DE alignment with a wide outside pass rush.
He played well enough to draw some double-teams; however, he would get blown out on occasion which seemed inevitable considering that he is 6-1, 258 going against Guards that significantly outweigh him.
Like most of the other players that the Cowboys drafted/signed this year, he has a feel for playing with leverage and using his hands. I didn’t see much in the way of Wow plays, but I wouldn’t expect to with him playing the 3 or 5 tech positions.
He tended to play conservatively. There were multiple occasions that he could have chased the QB, but stayed back to prevent the QB from having a running lane.
Summary: It’s almost impossible to get much from watching his college game footage because he was out of position and was not in a defense that went all in to rush the passer. He should be much better than many DE(s) at defending the run because he routinely played against big Guards and was often double-teamed. It’s possible that he would have been drafted if he had played as a true 4-3 DE.
It will be interesting to see him in Marinelli's defense with the opportunity to play as a RDE and being coached to go all out after the QB.
