EL PASO -- Tommy Jones outdueled Quincy Carter at the El Paso County Coliseum on Saturday night, leading the El Paso Generals to a 58-36 victory over the Abilene Ruff Riders in a battle of the top two teams of the Lone Star Division of the Indoor Football League.

Jones threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as El Paso improved to 5-1 and Abilene fell to 3-3. Carter, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was 22-of-44 passing for 252 yards and five touchdowns, but his team never led after getting the first score of the game.

It seems he hit "lower" than this a few years ago.

At least he's pitchin' and chuckin' and juckin' and jiven' on a football field. You gotta' give a guy a little props who doesn't let go of the dream.

Either THAT, or he has no other skills or means to make a living. He's probably getting between $1,000.00 and $2,000.00 a game (I'm guessing) in a league at this level. It's better than dealing drugs or collecting cans and bottles, sleeping under a bridge. Which, from what I gathered, he was either doing or at the brink of such a condition.

Playing in that league at any pay level would be serious fun, and if I had the ability I would readily give up the day job to do it.

That guys ridin' a rollercoaster thru life right now, we should all be so lucky! lol

You're right, at least he's playing the game ...

Listening to his post-game interview, it sounds like he's aware of who he is, who he was and where he is now. He talked about how he's out there w/ guys hoping to step up to the next level in the AFL, Canada or the NFL.

maybe it was just me, but there was a certain humility in how he said that...like talking about them, not himself; like he's resigned to the fact that this could be it for him.

Yeah, whatever.........................

The kid probably only has on "skill set", and that's "playing Qb on a football team".

I'm not an "at least" this or "at least" that guy. But, in this case, I'm going off that reservation. At least he's not out there making undignified and criminal headlines he was making a few years back. At least he's plodding his trade, an honest trade, and not trying to make a criminal buck.

Give the guy that at least.................

It's cool that he's doing something that isn't illegal. Unfortunately for him it would have been ok to make 1000-2000 playing football in a minor league but an article was posted on this a while back and he makes 200 a game, 250 if they win. That's not going to go very far so he obviously must have a real job to go with playing football.

If they had a league around here that paid 1000-2000 a week to play football I'd be all over that.

Cool your jets, big guy.... I'm not bagging on the guy for trying to make a few bucks ... I'm just answering a question with the CORRECT answer.
