When drafted I was like this dude is turrble. There was a bunch of Good OL prospects in that range. When drafted thought he would eventually replace DLaw as the team's starting strong side DE who also had the ability to kick inside on the nickel.
Gholston is not a starter quality DE, but he may be a starter quality DT. Upside is much higherin theory its not a bad idea but its risky for Gholston because if its doesnt work out he may get cut because we have starters on both these positions,
In the 4th round? Who?When drafted I was like this dude is turrble. There was a bunch of Good OL prospects in that range.
Have you heard anything about Ridgeway. Hoping we hit on one at 5th round.I think they weigh in… but I’m not 100% sure. Spagnola said 280 like he knew it for sure.
Anyway, he has bulked up some and will be a pass rushing 3T.
Did not work to good. Was humiliated in the playoffs rams game. This is nothing new. Marinelli tried this too at times. Remember when we added Hardy in 2015 and people were talking about the NASCAR DL we could throw out there with Lawrence or Hardy bouncing inside and Gregory on the outside on obvious passing downs.
Nice insightI think it is very interesting that Quinn is using Golston primarily as a pass rushing 3-tech this offseason. I know they did it all through offseason workouts, and apparently he was mostly playing there today. He was also asked to put on weight to play inside more.
Golston played DT some at Iowa and had a knack for rushing inside. That’s not just my opinion from watching him play either… several sources talked about him being good when rushing inside. He’s always been a strong DE with average quickness. Moving him to a pass rushing 3T means he will be much quicker for that position.
Since he was drafted I have hoped that they’d use Golston some inside because he really does have a knack for it.
They’re also playing Lawrence some inside as well, probably working on a “NASCAR” package with…. Williams-Golston-DLaw-Parsons… which could be very effective on some passing downs. It is great to have a creative defensive coordinator who can and will move his chess pieces around.
Anyway, here is what I read about this today:

- End Or Tackle: Might have to start calling these guys just defensive linemen. During those offseason workouts, last year's third-round draft pick Chauncey Golston was seen working more at defensive tackle than the defensive end he had been in 2021. Was written off as just trying to be versatile. Well, that versatility might be more than that as nearly all of Golston's snaps on Wednesday came inside at defensive tackle at the 3-technique. After all, Golston is 6-5, 277, a good dinner from 280. And there also were snaps with left defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence rushing inside at tackle during the offense's two-minute drill. Why, even second-round defensive end Sam Williams was seen inside at tackle in pass-rush situations, and he, too, 6-4, 261.
Nothing yet but I don’t really expect much from him until the pads come on. His attitude and relentless style will definitely show better in pass.Have you heard anything about Ridgeway. Hoping we hit on one at 5th round.
I trust Quinn and his plan way more than Marinelli. Not to mention there is a different head coach too. Golston is an ideal candidate for this IMO. We will have to wait to see how it turned out, but it is a good plan, IMO.
Obviously. But I think Golston (who I liked as a power player at DE) is a very good candidate to make the move and have some success. Time will tell if it works out but I like the idea because he won’t make a difference at DE.I do too but the point is taking a DE, and that's what Golston is, and putting him at DT on passing downs isn't anything all that new.
A couple of months ago I reviewed several of Golston's college games.I think it is very interesting that Quinn is using Golston primarily as a pass rushing 3-tech this offseason. Quinn had Michael Bennett in Seattle. 5T end on run downs, 3T in pass rush situations. Golston is a similar tool guy.
