DRAFT WATCH
OK, more quarterback talk. I've got Sept. 23 circled on my calendar. That's the day Notre Dame visits Michigan State for a prime-time national TV game. The game is a sellout – and the press box will also be full of NFL scouts. I'd love to be there with them.
That's because the two top quarterback prospects in the 2007 NFL draft will be squaring off, Brady Quinn of Notre Dame and Drew Stanton of Michigan State. Both carry first-round grades into the fall – the only quarterbacks in the country with such lofty grades. No other quarterback has a grade higher than the third round.
The two quarterbacks staged a classic throwfest at South Bend in 2005 with Michigan State prevailing in overtime, 44-41. Quinn passed for 487 yards and five touchdowns, and Stanton passed for 327 yards and three scores. Stanton also rushed for 48 yards and another TD.
Here are the top 10 quarterback prospects for the 2007 NFL draft heading into the fall:
Quarterback School Height Weight
Brady Quinn Notre Dame 6-4 227
Drew Stanton Michigan State 6-3 222
Troy Smith Ohio State 6-2 215
Trent Edwards Stanford 6-4 220
Jeff Rowe Nevada-Reno 6-5 220
Kevin Huff Tuskegee 6-2 215
Toby Korrodi Central Missouri 6-4 235
Jordan Palmer Texas-El Paso 6-5 235
Chris Leak Florida 6-0 207
Kevin Kolb Houston 6-3 225 (Go Coogs!)
