Quit apologizing for our wide receivers

I agree Bledsoe deserves criticism for todays game but where were our receivers when we needed them? This reminded me of the late 90's in which Troy Aikman had time to throw but none of our receivers could get separation or make plays when they needed to. Our receivers are nearly as old as our QB and if anyone thinks that a simple change in QB will result in amazing results guess again. Even Peyton Manning has Marvin Harrsion, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Stoakley and Dallas Clark.

Like I said, I was critical of Bledsoe today like many others but his receivers did little to help him. Intereceptions are often times the result of impatience due to a QB trying to force something because his receivers haven't gotten open or made a play. Even Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer would have trouble with our receiving roster.

Who's "apologizing" for the receivers?

But just as the qb play is qualified by the oline play, so is the receiver play qualifed by a run game that doesn't require stacking the box.

One component impacts another..and the max protect schemes have had theirs on the receivers and Jason as well.

A team shouldn't have to face 8 man fronts for our receivers to get open which what you are implying when you say the Giants didn't stack the box. Honestly, better receivers could have done more in the situation they faced today. Our running game improved significantly in the second half. The problem is our receivers are getting older and are not as talented as many of the better receivers in the league. They just couldn't get much separation and make many plays when asked to do so today.

Yah, I'd love to see Andre Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald out there.

But Bledsoe was just flat out inaccurate today. Ducks, floaters, ground balls, behind the receivers and over the heads.

The TD pass to Glenn was a beautifully thrown ball, but overall, DB was just plain off. Most of it was due to the pressure, but some throws without pressure were poorly thrown balls, plain and simple.

The receivers don't get a pass when everyone else is being called on the carpet.

But they were FAR from the main culprits today.

And I would like to see the guys who don't draw the double coverage separate more. ;)

Did I say they were the main culprit? No, but they were hardly addressed until just 30 minutes ago. All season, they have hardly gotten any of the blame when the passing game was ineffective, it was always Bledsoe or the OL.

DB had a terrible day but even QB's with bad days can be saved by good receivers. We all know that. Remember we lost by 7 points not 21. You're telling me that if we didn't have better receivers capable of making plays, we couldn't have at least scored another TD especially 1 minute 20 left and one timeout. The Giants gave us many opportunities and many times we punted away because our offense was lackluster. The second interception was one thrown out of frustration because DB was trying to make a play not because he misread it.

I don't care if Randy Moss was out there with Jerry Rice in his prime - there is a limit to what any receiver can do when a ball is not humanly within his grasp.

There is no receiver tall enough or with vertical leap enough to pluck a ball way over his head. And I doubt anyone without excavators for hand could have dug that 60 yarder off the ground Glenn tried to.

That goes for the next great thing predicted here - TO.

No, this wasn't a "playmaker" scenario .

What we needed that final drive was a rhythm and an offensive balance we lacked all day. There was enough time for a decent drive downfield, off play action and sidelines control.

What this O is needing is execution, sustained drives, and third down efficiency.

I think it all goes back to the O-line. Kansas City trots a bunch of rejects (Eddie Kennison, Seriously Chris Horn) out there at WR every year but because they have a great line and running back they end up having one of the best offenses every year. Until we fix our O-line we will continue to be frustrated.

They also have the best pass catching TE in the NFL too. KC has been a bust the past 3 seasons. They were a preseason pick for the Superbowl the previous two seasons and they did nothing. O-line is obviously more important than receiver but you can't ignore adding quality receivers either because they are the ones who make big plays on 3rd and long.

They were a bust because of their Defense plain and simple. Their offense has consistently been a top 3 offense every year and they start Eddie Kennison and Chris Horn at WR with Sammie Parker and Dante Hall getting time. Not a number one WR in the bunch, heck not hardley a number 2's for that matter. It all starts with their O-line and goes from there. You're O tackles have to be good on third and long as well. I still think O-Line improvement is the number one priority on this team.

I never denied that O-line isn't our first priority. But to suggest KC doesn't have receiving talent is far from being accurate.. Having the best TE in the league certainly helps. Kennison has always been a legitimate deep threat. During his rookie year, he almost had a 1000 yards receiving for St. Louis. He has averaged 17 yards per catch three times in his career and last season he had a 1000 yards receiving; he is on pace to go over 1000 yards this season as well. Last season the Chiefs had Johnnie Morton who has 5 seasons with over 1000 yards.

But I think it's odd how we forgot when Aikman had only Irvin to throw to in the late 90's despite being given protection from his offensive line. Teams would double and triple Irvin and Troy had no one to throw to despite being give time. You can have all the time in the world but if your receivers can't get open, then you are stuck.

Bottom line is we need to get younger at WR. Bad line or not we should be getting more than 5 completions to the Wideouts per game. That is piss poor. Keyshawn has never been a seperation guy, but he just can't get open unless he's tip-toeing the sideline. Glenn can't beat Double coverage, thats not a knock on him, he just can't do it. We need a #1 guy that can consistently get open and grab 5-7 passes a game. We don't have that.

I love Key, and I love Glenn, but it's time for a change. I think we'll have to keep one of them next year. I think Glenn will stay with Crayton being the type of WR Keyshawn is.
