Can anyone explain why we continually stick with Keith Davis at free safety?

We have over a year and a half of film and experience watching him flounder around helplessly in the secondary. IT IS OBVIOUS HE CAN NOT PLAY.

At least with Watkins there is the unknown. There is the potential.

With Davis, we know he sucks, and he really has no potential.

***?

Sorry, I got nnothing. I cant explain why he is still our starter. If he is our best option, then we are truly boned at that position. Man, I wish we made a run at Chris Hope this past off-season.

After last night I wish we had gone after Omar Stoutmire while he was still available.

Why? he's terrible. It's just the illusion the cowboys make. They make average players look great. Even though we won don't forget our running game against Indy and Eli pratically having a flawless game.

Why is it we keep talking about free safety, when it is clear as day that the main problem for a pass defense, is our lack of a pass rush? Every single safety is going to be beat, when a quarterback is given that much time of throw...

Sean Payton was abusing Zimmer, by consistently attacking the short routes, forcing the secondary up. This is precisely why NO got the majority of their DEEP TDs in the second half. Before than, Brees was moving the ball with basic screen plays, and dump-offs. Karney had 3 TDs if my memory serves me right before the Saints even scored on a deep play.

The only way our defense is going to work is if we have SUPERMEN in every position. And this is not reality. Until then, we are going to here the same excuse that the "players do not execute." The coaches have to begin to take responsibility.

We can't get basic pressure on a QB, let alone sack him. And even the worst defenses get some pressure. This is COACHING.

Well, I have always maintained that if you are going to roll with Keith Davis and Roy Williams in coverage, you better have more than a below-average pass rush.

Right now we have Safeties that struggle in coverage and we have a lack of pass rush on the defensive line.

This is a recipe for disaster, always has been always will be.

Eli had a flawless game because WE MADE HIM have a flawless game. Our game plan was to sit back and give Eli time all day to throw, as long as he didn't beat us on the DEEP PASS. Why do you think Tiki Barber, on the last Giants' drive of the game, took a basic catch over the middle for almost a 40 plus play?

It is because of this attitude that Roy is playing BACK IN coverage most of the day, not giving a chance to come and play upto the line. It is why average offensive teams can control the claock against us, wearing out our defense by the end of the game...

We are ABSOLUTELY CLUELESS coaching wise on defense... And while we can put the blame on Zimmer, the fact that Parcells has not done a single thing about it, despite witnessing this glaring weakness throughout the SEASON, puts him at blame as well...

"killer" has to lead the league in number of plays in which he takes out his own teamates. There isnt even a close second.

Another note not touched on.

Keith Davis = No INTS in his career
Keith Davis = No Sacks in his career
Keith Davis = 0 Pass Deflections in 2006

I wonder if there is another team that has a Free Safety with the lack of numbers over say a 2 year period?

I have to guess no.

K. Davis + R. Williams + Cover 2 = TD

Im and currently studying for the GRE and I love that Equation. It would be funny if that Equation appeared on the actual test :lmao2: .

What other choice do we have? Watkins isn't ready.

He certainly can do what Keith Davis is doing, and at least he might get better.

Please, please get Davis off the field. I don't care if we put Jerry back there in coverage at this point.

The fact that Keith Davis is still in is reflective of the coaching staff...

They don't trust talent until they are forced into a position to make the change. Parcells is way too conservative. He continues to ride a player he wants UNTIL THINGS BLOW-UP. This was exactly the reason it took so long to bench Bledsoe, when he should have been benched way before.

The staff doesn't have a clue... The deep passes continue. It is obvious that the real problem is not safety. The problem is our defensive approach PERIOD.

We want to protect against the deep pass, and opposing teams attack our defense on short routes, which ultimately forces the secondary to play double-minded. They control the clock on us, and our defense gets tired by the third-quarter.

And then we hear the common chant that we play with no heart... Did you see how fired up Newman was at the beginning of the game... There was plenty of heart in the beginning of the game...

Our problem was NOT Watkins...

I'm guessing that the reason we don't go after the QB relentlessly is that the coaching staff is scared stiff about getting burnt by the long ball (or even a simple crossing pattern). They recognize that the deep secondary is a weakness.

I'm not arguiung that they are right, by the way - just pointing out a possible reason for our timid defensive game plans.
