Havent posted in awhile, and this will probably be it until closer to the draft...

"Next years champions" was coined I believe in the late 60's when referring to the Cowboys...I wasnt watching then (before my time) but in reading and watcing interviews, I think thats what our team was called because they lost every yr in the postseason...maybe some of the long time fans who were watching the team then can elaborate more on that, but I am pretty sure thats where it started...seems appropriate here to me...we cant win in January (or december for that matter)...its just amazing this franchise has now gone 11 years since winning a playoff game...longest drought in franchise history I believe

1) just a total franchise loss today...players played bad, coaches coached bad...we got dinged on a couple of calls, but for the most part the penalties we got were deserved...no one player is to blame, although a few played far worse than others

2) in regards to the coaching, I thought the game plan on defense was bad...what happened to going after Manning and forcing him into some mistakes? what was that junk on defense before halftime? (which is where we ultimately lost the game, because of that drive)...and last but definitely not least, what was that atrocious clock management on our last drive? high school teams can manage the clock better than that

3) in regards to the players, I thought most played bad but we absolutely cant win with Romo playing the way he is now...he made alot of dumb decisions, took a couple of really stupid sacks and made alot of poor throws...he had TO for two fairly easy tds (the one on the FG drive especially) and threw two awful balls...the intentional grounding play was also ignorant on his behalf, though I will say its the first time I can recall someone getting an intentional grounding when there was no pass rush...if that was grounding, shouldnt Manning have been flagged in the first qtr for that throw away (and he WAS being rushed) of his?...Crayton was horrible...the OL melted down in the 4th qtr...the defense made one or two good plays the whole game and never once came close to forcing a turnover...obviously Reeves performed very poor, but he's a 7th rd pick who is a 4th or 5th CB at best...

4) our special teams are an out and out disgrace...this is the worst season of special teams play I can remember from us, whoever that coach is has gotta be replaced

5) Jones has already said tonight that Phillips will definitely be back as HC...as I told a few others afterward, before the game I believed there was nothing I'd see win or lose to make me think WP didnt deserve another yr, but I was wrong...I just cant believe at how poor we looked...we had a fairly healthy team, at home, against a team we'd beaten twice already that had a multitude of injuries...yet there we were all game long...no intensity...bad tackling...bad special teams play...bad play calling, poor execution and numerous penalties...I think we were the first NFC #1 seed since 1990 when the format was altered the last time to lose in the divisional round...thats just bad

6) great game (especially first half) by Barber...he earned the starting job and did great, though I do wonder how he could hold up for 16 games as the every down RB with his style...he just runs with a total reckless abandon and he's gonna be incredibly sore tomorrow...MBII, Ware, TO and Witten were the only guys who played "well" IMO

7) some say they feel "sorry" for Romo...but he deserves any and all criticism that is going to come his way...he played ok in the first half, but he was pretty bad in the second half...whether he did prepare well or not, he's gonna forever be questioned about his work ethic at least until he proves otherwise in the future...I just have a hard time thinking a guy like Aikman, Elway, Staubach, Montana, etc etc would have done what he did with the most important games of his career upcoming...Jones gave Romo 67 million, nobody should have to be wondering about his commitment to the game...today, most would have to say they are

8) Deion said it after the GB game and he was right...this team has absolutely zero killer instinct...

9) 3 most important areas IMO to address for 2008: upgrade the speed in the back 7 on defense, especially the secondary...upgrade the special teams coaching and upgrade the OL coach...good luck in Miami Sparano, dont let the door his you in the arse on the way out...I've thought this guy was terrible as an OL coach all along, today just reiterated it

10) sounds like Garrett is gonna get either the Baltimore or Atlanta job...I think he's eventually gonna be a good HC, but he really should wait a yr or two IMO...he showed flaws in his coaching ability down the stretch too and we had way too many plays in the 4th qtr today where all the receivers just ran straight down the field on fly routes

bummer of a way to end a season...but its over and hopefully Jones and the front office will make some good offseason moves, have a good draft and along with the whole organization figure out a way to "finish" next yr..it should be the theme for the entire year from TC, to preseason games, to regular season games through January...they need to "finish" teams off when they get leads and most importantly figure out how to play an entire schedule with the same intensity on a week to week basis...hope everyone has a great start to 2008, talk to ya again around draft time

Good to hear from you again, David. I agree with most of your sentiments. It's just too hard right now to put feelings into words without the bitterness pouring out. Hopefully this team looks long and hard at itself and what it left on the table.

The killer instinct comment is spot-on. While I hate the Patriots with a passion and Tom Brady, there are two things that I envy them for:

1. They don't make mistakes
2. They have a killer instinct

We do in 1., and we don't in 2.

sounds like Garrett is gonna get either the Baltimore or Atlanta job...I think he's eventually gonna be a good HC, but he really should wait a yr or two IMO...he showed flaws in his coaching ability down the stretch too and we had way too many plays in the 4th qtr today where all the receivers just ran straight down the field on fly routes

The fly-route deal is something I have harped on all year as well. We run too many vertical routes, and not enough quick slants. If you notice on the potential TD where Romo overthrew TO, he was wide open with the slant. It's surprising the Cowboys didn't try more of that.

I have noticed that Bellichek, if the pressure gets too much on Brady, simply shortens the passing game with a few screens and quick passes to Welker... we don't adjust...

 What? Are you serious, dude? Romo was done in by a ineffective O Line and an underachieving Crayton.

All of the sudden you have the inside scoop on his work ethic?
Do tell us how little he works.
Untwist them and go to sleep.
