Collinsworth has been sippin' plenty of Cowboy Kool Aid lately.

He talked up Ware being the best LBer in the league not too long ago.

And he obviously loves Romo like every other human being out there.

Why not Whats not to Love about Rick Romo...:laugh2:

Collinsworth watches a lot more film than most of the people in his business, I think.

Ehh, you are only using Cooley's two best years. Let's use all the numbers from 2004 to present since Cooley started to play in 2004.

Witten (2004 - Present/only counted 11 games to be fair for Cooley)

276 Receptions / 3,241 Yards / 19 TDs

Cooley (2004 - Present)

211 Receptions / 2,317 Yards / 26 TDs

While I agree that Cooley's TDs are much better, the receptions and yards heavily favors Witten. Also, Cooley is their passing offense, their WRs are dog crap, whereas we have TO, Glenn who are huge part of passing game.

one could argue that since Cooley IS our passing offense he gets a lot more attention and coverage making it harder on him. This sceams of the ST vs Roy debates we use to have.

Witten is a far superior blocker. That's the big difference that doesn't show in stats.

True.

I think both sides can agree; we have elite TE's.

Gates, Gonzales (despite him aging), Winslow, Cooley, and Witten are elite TEs in the league. Any team would be lucky to have one.

You can throw Vernon Davis in there too. It might be a little early perhaps, but that guy is SERIOUS. He's been hurt this year and he's young, but he is going to be a SICK freakin' TE for San Fran.

Must not forget Dallas Clarke either.

I don't like the guy but he is becoming a star.

He has 1 of the best set of hands in the league as far as TEs go.

There is no doubt in my mind that Witten is an elite tight end, but let's not forget that TO(one of the best WR's of all time) helps him a lot. Commanders on the other hand have mediocre receivers. Santana Moss is a one-hit wonder.
Having said that, the best TE this year is Winslow, hands down.

I've wondered if anyone else caught this but during that one possession in the 2nd half where Witten caught like 3 passes, Cris Collinsworth stated affirmatively that Jason Witten is the best TE in the league.

Bryant Gumbel was taken aback so he responded, "Better than Gates?"
Collinsworth, "Yep."
Gumbel, "Better than Gonzales?"
Collinsworth, "Yep."
Gumbel, almost sounding exasperated, "Better than Cooley?"
Collinsworth, "Yep. In regards to what a TE does, blocking and catching he is the best in the business." (Paraphrasing)

I wonder if anyone else caught that...

Well I'm going to have to give Gumball some credit here..... He identified 3 TEs correctly.

But he is is every bit as good catching the ball and after the ball. It's not like this isn't even close like some of you homers are claiming.

Witten 2005 - 757 yds and 6 TDs
Witten 2006 - 754 yds and 1 TD

Cooley 2005 -774 yds and 7 TDs
Cooley 2006 - 734 yds and 6 TDs

That's Witten 1511 yds and 7 TD's
and Cooley 1508 yds and 13 TD's

To even suggest this isn't debatable is ridiculous. Ya, I would most definitely take Witten over Cooley but there are a lotta non-Dallas fans who would'nt...

It's close is all I'm saying.

If Witten was a Commander and Cooley a Cowboy, they would be arguing and laughing with anyone that dared say Witten was close to as good as Cooley.

I have learned to except that 90% of the time it is homerism.

Cooley is a heck of a TE.

I disagree with this. Cooley is a SOLID TE. His numbers would be comparable to Wittens were he on Dallas. That's not taking anything away from Witten, I'm just stating Cooley is just as good.

Just Hush seriously.....not even on a homer tip..ill admit when a player is better..but you sir are way off.....

exactly.....Stats don't even tell the whole story...how many clutch catches has witten made to put us in position to win a game? Exactly......ill take clutch game deciding catches over just a lot of TD's....

and like home boy said...stop using his best years and compare the his career

I posted this in the game thread.

I was like WTH. Usually when people say stuff like that, they go from the worst one to the best one like in this instance (Cooley, Gonzalez, Gates). He put COOLEY of all people ahead of Winslow, Miller, Clark.

Does NFL Network have any place to contact so we can crucify Gumble :)

That reminds me of a scene in West Wing where a reporter says: "I have covered the White House for eight years and I've done it with the New York Times, the Washington Post, Time Magazine, and the Dallas Morning News".

The person he's talking to replies: "I don't know why you decided to be your most haughty on the Dallas Morning News in that sentence"

(sorry to rag on the local newspaper)

Witten had the best year of his career (before this one) when Glenn was hurt and he was our best receiving option. Having good receivers on this team has hurt Witten's numbers overall.

It always frustrated me in years past when Witten on had a few touches per game. I like that he is a focused weapon in this offense.

All hail Red

What does Bryant Grumble smoke, at least 4 times in the 1st QTR he refered to the Boys as the Packers, then after the game he called Romo, Rick Romo.

It's all pretty ironic, because the reason Bryant had a fast rise in broadcasting in the early years was that he never made mistakes. Now he's Mister Oops on the tube.

Uhhhh, no... he's almost as good a receiver, but Witten is vastly superior as a blocker...

Also mitigating in Jason's favor is the fact he never, ever wore those gawdawful, faggy short shorts that Cooley was photographed in this past summer...
