"This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone" error message

I updated my OS last night and today, I got the message "This accessory is not optimized for this iPhone" while I was shopping and when I was in my car. Also, it caused the sound in the iPod application to not work. Also, when I plugged the phone into the charger which is connected to the lighter, the error came up as well.

I restarted the phone but that didn't do the trick. Eventually it just started working again but I have no idea what the issue was.

Apparently, I am not the only one with the issue.

I get the same problem as well. It is when I use like non Apple products. Like I have a Belkin charger and it will do it sometimes. Plus it will do it the casing on the charger starts falling or sliding down where the wire kindof are exposed. I have 3gs and I did the update as well, but it was doing it before the update.

don't have an iphone or any cell phone at all. tried to convince the husband to get us one, but he talked me out of it.
