You guys acting like we gave up two first rounds pick for him. Low risk, high reward. If he fails and retires again then so what. It cost the team nothing.

Here is something that you are not thinking about that DOES cost the team something.

Let's say he comes in and does a great job. Earns the starting spot and is just killing it. Then for whatever reason he decides he is just not interested in football enough to keep up with the daily grind, or something back home just garners more attention to him so he decides he wants to retire and go back home.

Now we are stuck with depending on a good player and holding the bag with his retirement. No we are not losing out on a high draft pick or anything, but we have grown to rely on his play making ability and as a starter on defense only to lose him again.

So there IS a possibility of losing something out of this deal if he reverts back and wants to retire later. It is not just the idea of a low round draft pick.

I can see that... That would suck and might end up what happens.

Ive been getting into this ignore feature. I like what i hear about mcclain lately.

Me too. Sometimes the people closest to you in your life (i.e., family) are the ones that bring you the most heartache and pain. Ask Dez, Tyron. The way Jerry talked about him in that article ... I see him not being denied. I see Jerry using every bit of persuasion and whatever it takes to keep this guy playing for the Cowboys.

Broaddus puts near zero thought into those answers as we've seen in the past. He tries to throw out and answersto everyone to make them feel good that he responded because that's really what most people that ask those question want anyway.

That's a good thing if Durant out played him that day.

Also, Durant's been with the team for two seasons. If he's NOT outplaying a guy that hasn't played in a year and is learning a new system......We'd have to worry.

Also, McClain seems more like a game player that might never look great in practice (i.e. Allen Iverson).

So many people are quick to judge someone for not putting football first. The fact of the matter is that family should ALWAYS come first.... and I commend him for that. I just hope that those matters are taken care of and we can get the best from him going forward.

Right. Just imagine back in what was it 1964, when Roger was drafted, but had a 4 year comittment to the Navy, or Chad Hennings, with the Air Force.
Or if Pat Tillman was on the Cowboys and gave it up to serve his country, only to be in a tragic friendly fire ....
what would have been the posts on here...wow....LOL

From his interviews, it sounds he has his family situation taken care of, so let us hope it stays that way for himself, his family, and the Dallas Cowboys can benefit from that.

The trade was a good one. It is looking like he'll cost us a pick. If not.... No big deal.

It's called low risk high reward for a reason.

Yep.

Even then. It won't cost us a pick, it'll just mean a swap of 6th and 7th rounders.

I find it funny that Broaddus is used as a sounding board in one argument only to be dismissed in the next.

Whether you like him or not, he has a legitimate resume scouting to include a SB yet some people want to pick and choose when his thoughts are right and wrong compared to theirs.

Last time I checked no one here has that type of job history.

Is it the same posters using Broaddus as support in one case and then dismissing him in another? Because so often around here posters try to lump posters together by their outlook and assume that means there's supposed to be logical consistency between their arguments as a result. Which is, of course, silly. I might think our defense is going to stink for reasons that differ from the reasons you think the defense is going to stink, and could use arguments that don't support your opinion in the slightest, as a result.

Broaddus is relatively controversial personality. It's not at all surprising that some give his opinions more credibility than others. Even among posters who have similar outlooks, overall.

After reading the article on Cowboys.com, I think they are bringing him along the right way. They know he is a top 10 talent. He knows what to do, he knows his body, he knows the game, and he's smart. They're telling him to keep going to meetings, learn what we're trying to do on D and by opening day you'll be ready. They're probably telling him he's gonna be the star of this team. Who else on this D has the ability to shine? The guy has skills. Jerry and Jason are just trying to get his trust, mind and body right.

This is pretty obvious. All football players work out. All NFL teams have a weight room program for players.

Alright Mr. Obvious. I'm sure someone here can tell you 5 stories of guys who failed to take advantage of what ALL football players/teams have to offer. I can Google it, but I've got a Cowboys defense that I'm concerned with at this moment.

Did family come first when he was getting arrested?

I have high hopes for the guy but let's stop painting him as Mother Teresa.

We need one all-in season from McClain. Anything beyond that is a bonus.
