First three rounds. Assuming we're picking #20. Defensive heavy, because our offense has been pretty darn good, our defense not so much.

First Round - Justin Gilbert, CB, OK State, 6'0, 201LBs.

Analysis -
I know, I don't want a CB either... but it's looking like Claiborne isn't the player we were hoping for. If that's the case, and we are lucky enough to have Gilbert on the board (way to early to tell, he'll likely go in the 10-20 range, depending on the combine it could be a little higher or lower) we'd have to pull the trigger. If necessary we could trade Claiborne for a 3rd rounder, maybe a 2nd, but I tend to believe that competition would do us good, plus Carr won't last forever. Can't ever have too many good corners in this league.

Second Round - Stephon Tuitt, DE/DT, Notre Dame, 6'6, 300LBs.

Analysis -
We need some defensive line help, badly. Stephon is going to be quite the player at the next level, he's a big strong guy with some speed. He's exactly what the doctor ordered for the Dallas Cowboys defensive line.

Third Round - Anthony Steen, G, Alabama, 6'3, 309LBs.

Analysis -
He plays mean. We need mean.

Tuitt won't make it to the 2nd, Steen not likely to last til the 3rd.

It's too bad we have so much invested in CB's because both Gilbert and Michigan State's Darqueze Dennard seem like good fits for our current scheme.

I'd probably go Tuitt in the 1st and Steen in the 2nd if need be, I like both players. It's ridiculously hard to predict where players will endup being picked right now, at this point Clausen was expected to go #2.

I love Gilbert at CB. I'd draft him and deal Claiborne if we must, although to be honest I'd enjoy seeing the competition between two young ultra-physically talented players. Maybe it lights the fire under Claiborne and he can become the elite CB we expected he would.

Agreed but Tuitt is a massive talent and probably won't declare unless he's pretty confident he'll go in the top 20 like he's currently projected.

I've seen him projected as a 2nd rounder in some places. We will see. I hope he declares, and I'd love to see him with the star on his helmet - pretty much the exact player we need.

I don't think we need any corners. Once the D-Line is fixed the secondary will be fine.

Fix the D-line and the scheme for Mo and Carr. Hopefully these last couple weeks, they roll the dice, blitz like crazy and put these guys man up and press the WR at the line.

I disagree. I believe Claiborne has the talent, but just isn't putting it together. Even with a improve D-line that won't automatically change

It's too early to be throwing more first round picks at corners if you ask me. First, we should try to beef up the trenches so we can get a real idea where we are at with the secondary. If he really is that bad (I don't think he is), then Scandrick is good enough to hold the fort down for now. Judging by your post though, you value corners higher than I do.

Agreed.

Carr, Mo, and Scandrick is a more than good enough secondary. With such a terrible pass rush it really doesn't matter who is on the back end.

That being said, they need to be used properly. All three are man-to-man corners, not zone/cover 2 guys. Use them as such.

Think it would be a waste to go G. Leary and Mack are just fine. Cb would be a waste that early especially with Carr, Mo and Scandrick.

I think our corners are fine if we can put any pressure on the QB, and that's where we should be focusing our offseason efforts, IMHO. You can scheme around great coverage. There's not too much you can do about a great pass rush.

PS: I believe strongly in the BPA strategy, though, so if BPA is a DB when we're up, I got no prob selecting him.

I dunno, drafting Gilbert in round one might prompt Risenstar to head over to VR and do what needs to be done. Could be a win win situation.

Gilbert I like a lot.. Still like Roby more and think he will be a big time playmaker and gamechanger but I would not be mad with that pick at all.. Not the biggest fan of Tuitt and I don't care much for Steen although I do think we need some more attitude on this team
