The Detroit News reports the Raiders are considering parting ways with DT Warren Sapp.

Sapp, 33, knows Lions head coach Rod Marinelli from their days together in Tampa. With Dan Wilkinson out the door, Detroit could look into signing Sapp if he's released after June 1.

how many ways does Sapp not fit as a 3-4 DT (or DE)? About a million or two.

I think the Cowboys should sign him... He's a Cowboys fan.. Hell, if Jason Ferguson can't beat Sapp out, then he might be on his way out...

I think Sapp would be a good fit...

He can't play in a 34 which was proven in oakland when he sucked at it, yet you wanna sign him?

For the Cowboys? Not really.

Yesterday it was Fat Daddy. Now it's Sapp. Who will get cut or rumored to be cut tomorrow that could be that famous "good fit"???

It's in times like these that I am thankful that CBZ spilled some DP on the red "Ban Nors" button

I totally disagree with this post and I like Sapp. Bad fit here IMO.

If Glover wasn't a good fit here then Sapp certainly isn't. He's not a nose tackle and can't play 3-4 end.

We'd be right at the bottom of the list of potential new homes for him. He hates 3-4 and is not good at it.

Why doesn't Warren Sapp fit in the Dallas Cowboys 3-4 system?:starspin

He is the same type of tackle as Glover. A guy who excels as a one gap penetrator.

In the 3-4, the linemen are required to have two-gap responsibility. Its definitely not Sapp's forte.

Besides, Sapp has always been overrated and was done years ago.

Here's some reasons for and against -- I think this sums up both sides of the argument

Against

a) Sapp hasn't been dominant since 2000 or even good since 2002.

b) Sapp could be generously described as being on the "downside" of his career.

c) Sapp is coming off a rotator cuff injury.

d) Good teams don't bring in old guys who don't fit their D.

For

a) I have heard of him.

How did he look in Oakland's 3-4 RC? Did you see a good NT there? Why do you think that would change?

The guy is a 4-3 DT on the downhill slide of his career. He's nowhere near the dominating DT he used to be. Bad idea, really bad idea.
