Raiders as trade partners

Raiders have been dealing away and for players since Gruden took over. We've actually traded with them twice this offseasons, once Switzer for Ward, and another time for Olawale.

No player is safe on the Raiders roster with the new regime in town. Two players that interest me are 2nd year players SAF Obi Melifonwu and 1T Eddie Vanderdose.

Obi had quite a few fans here leading up to last years draft. A poster who I wont name even said that he'd deactivate his account if he wasnt selected in the 1st round. The former Uconn safety has elite mesureables, 6'4(98 percentile), 224 lbs(97%), 4.4 40(95%), 44 inch vert(99%), and 141' broad jump(99%). This along with his adequate play got him selected in the 2nd round. I found his film to be 3rd round worthy.

Obi despite not having injury issues in college has been banged up since entering the league. Playing in 5 games last year and missed the Raider first preseason game with a lower body flare up.

With our void at SAF I would love to pick him up for a pick that is much lower than his original draft position. I think that is possible given Gruden's growing frustarations with him and him falling diwn the depth chart to snag him for a 4th-6th rounder. We currently only have three SAFs that are NFL roster worthy in Heath, Frazier and Woods. So there's a huge need. Raiders have also been open to player for player swaps, but I'm not sure what player that would be from the Cowboys.

I'll edit later on with Vanderdose situation.

I was very interested in Obi during the draft last year, I would have liked him to be a cowboy.
If we can't work out a deal for ET, this could be a nice much cheaper option to provide depth, and possibly groom into a starter. At worst, he would/should be a great special teamer.

I liked Eddie in the 17 draft. Is there any indication he could be made available/he may be moved?

Not official by any means, but likely not in the good graces of Gruden.

Gruden loves his vets, so maybe we could move some vets for these guys with less draft capital given up?

My thoughts exactly.

Well, here's an idea. Maybe Kalil Mack? (I probably butchered the first name). I mean, he sounds like he's rather upset with his current situation, and he'd be good here.

I mean, could you IMAGINE Mack along side of Gregory and DLaw? Or, maybe he can replace DLaw if needed. It'd be brilliant!

In fact, unless Mack starts to walk into other teams' locker rooms, I'd reckon that he seems to be handling his grievances better than ET. That being said, how BRILLIANT would it be if we could get both him and ET? I'd be more inclined to give up a 2nd for Mack than I would ET. ET as a FA and Mack as a trade would be absolutely magnificent.

Once they add Mack along with Donald and ET the Cowboys defense is gonna be stout.

If only there was no such thing as a salary cap lol. In all seriousness, I'd LOVE for us to get all three of them. The question is, how long will we have them? I'd love to be able to extend their contracts for a while.

Byron Jones and Obi have similar measurables (seriously - what's in the water at UConn?), but I actually like Byron's game tape in college whereas I just saw Obi as an athlete playing football. The Obi = Byron comparison makes sense and is really easy to make, but if you think Jones looks lost or makes plays a step late, you're really going to hate Obi.

Vanderdoes would be a fun one though. I remember the scouting report on him was a super talented 1T who's lazy, but I heard he was productive last year, so maybe the light has come on. He would be a nice Terrell McClain type reclamation project to snag on the cheap.

Theres A LOT of Mack talk on here, right Fur? And hes about as unlikely to be traded here as Tom Brady.

So I was trying to go the road less traveled and discuss some more low cost options.

It would take more than a 2nd for Mack. But I brought that exact idea up in a different thread. I think the addition of those two with our already good players and this up in coming D would really make a difference. But I also think the chances of it happening are the same as zero.

Only thing I'll say is that Obi actuslly played safety while in college, while Byron was lesrning on the fly and he actually did a damn good job at safety his 1st year.

Agree on both fronts regarding the players.
