As I tell my people, "I can hire a monkey to tell me what's wrong. I need people who can offer a solution." Even if we don't go with it, it's gets them thinking proactively.Top managers bring in good assistants and let them do their jobs without micromanaging. Whenever one of my top assistants would come to me with an idea and ask what I thought, I'd always answer what do you think? That way they develop confidence. And if they screw up, you can always fire them.![]()
Learned that a long time ago from a COO. He got colon cancer, and when he stepped away for a long absence, we were prepared to act in his stead. He told us before he died, that's why he was so insistent about it. Took that with me and do the same with my crew.
