Would it have been excessive for a Walter Peyton, Emmitt Smith type talent? I don't think so. But Ditka is obviously not the great negotiator. There was no reason to give away the entire draft. No one cares about your picks 4 and beyond. But if you're going to offer them, they'll take 'em. He's certainly no Jimmy Johnson.

I think it would be, but you at least would have something to show for it. That's a lot of draft capital to give up when you might can find a quality back with just one of those picks. I mean, if they hold on to their picks and don't force the RB, they could have just taken Jamal Lewis the next year.
