(forgive spelling): I don't post often, but read very often - love the site

Anthony Spenser - He sounds horrible or above average depending on what you read. I flip around on wether I want him to stay or go every day. Personally, I would like him to sign a 6m/year contract and progress. Anything bigger than that, he can walk. Let Hatcher or others take a shot.

Newman - Later dude. If he would sign for 2M a year to be a reserve, then I would be all for that. Other than that, he did a great job for us and has gotten too old to have around.

Draft a lineman of BPA (most likely defense) in the draft at 14. I have to say that this is the one that casues me the most heartburn. I like anchoring the line more than getting stronger at DB, S, or DE. Seems to me that you can count on a OL being more productive and predictable than the other options.

Laurant Robinson - Sign the dude to a 4M/year deal. We need him.

Rat moving to DE - He can definately put on pressure, but my concern is if he can hold up against the run on the edge. He deals with double teams but those come from going straight ahead, how will he hold up when pressure and double teams or pulls come at angles?

Does Garrett have controll or not? I tend to think he does, but other articles or posters make you think otherwise. I have also seen S. Jones being more in the spotlight lately. I hope Jerry is looking at moving back back a bit.

Witten seems to be getting older before our eyes. Draft a project at TE just to safe gaurd the piepline.

M. Bennett - BYE

Romo is the real deal. You can be a hater if you want, but if we got rid of him it would be devistating. He is/was Pro Bowl caliber, and makes the team look better than it is on offense. He is GREAT!!!

Ryan will improve the defense this year but he is not a GOD of coordination or defense. I think he will give the defense some better execution and BALLS, BUT, he has more bravado than sunstance in the end for me. I'm glad he is here because we need someone to make the defense have an edge, but I don't think he is putting in a system or mentality that will be on par with the Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, or Giants in the long term.

We have too many holes to fill with FA or the draft: - But we have enough skill players and options to become relavent in the next year or two.

Judging by what Jerry has spoken to the media about the current state of affairs I believe several things:

Free Agency: Jerry talked about a pass rush and how it can make average corners look better than they are. He also hinted that Spencer's play is hinged on the guy next to him. I'm thinking Dallas will be spending money on a DL that can create some havoc opposite of Ware. Moving Ratliff to DE might not work (I've advocated for him to be moved before) and scouts may be re-iterating that. The Giants had an injured secondary but their pass rush was all the difference in the world. Dallas needs more pass rushers to make the defense better. Ratliff just simply wore down as the season progressed and his play suffered as a result. If we can get a pass rushing DE we could see alot more 4 man rushes with man/zone coverages rather than 5-6 man blitzes with man coverages. The defense would be less predictable and harder for QBs to read pre-snap an our corners wouldn't be left on islands hoping for an incompletion.

Draft: At 14 Dallas has to be taking a sit back approach and will more than likely take the BPA at this spot. Garrett mentioned that he did not want to go to the draft having to fill big holes because it affects his draft philosphy. If you go into the draft trying to fill your deficiencies than it will cause you to miss out on a certain player because your are drafting to fill needs and not a BPA approach.

nice post overall: I'm not a fan of re-signing Spencer.....he's the kind of guy that should play on a year to year deal: but I understand not wanting to franchise him due to salary cap concerns...meh: if his motor and desire were where they need to be there wouldn't be a debate: that tells me we should let him walk: he has weak leadership skills and simply does not make plays that are readily there to be made.

More importantly, everyone, from fans to the team itself, should count on an offensive line that is (as you said) more productive and predictable than those other options. An offensive line is the true core of the offense. It protects its quarterback and buys crucial time for him to deliver the ball to his receivers. It opens holes (which some fans cannot discern) for its running backs to blow through. An offense can have the best skill players to have ever suited up, but how well it will succeed rests on its linemen's broad shoulders.

[Edit]While it wasn't perfect, a good example was Tom Brady's offensive line. They did their part to get that team to the Super Bowl. It was not until they ran into a defensive line which overpowered them at crucial moments (like the one which Brady was pressured into throwing the gimme duck interception) when it stumbled too much in getting the job done. Then again, that is another reason why the defensive line is the core of the defense. And a solid reason why the New York Giants are champions of the NFL once more.

I pretty much agree with your assessment, 100%. But Id probably let Newman walk regardless.

Please do not post another thread. :D Kidding of course. That was a nice read and I agree with just about everything you said. Please stick around.

Oline and D-line need addressed. CB and S in FA.
