Rams 31, Cowboys 34: Implosion

The Rams jumped out to an early 21-0 lead. They went on to lose the game.

The first 24 minutes of this game were better than the Rams asked for. The two first offensive drives resulted in touchdowns while the defense held fast. TheCowboys' third usage of the ball saw Janoris Jenkins score a touchdown.

Those were good times, then.

Since those ancient moments of joy and excitement, the Rams did nearly everything wrong.

Scott Wells turned an impressive two-minute drill at the end of the first half into a Cowboys possession that would add a FG heading into halftime. The Rams would lose by three.

The Rams only drive of the third quarter ended with a third down play on which Kenny Britt refused to extend the ball for a first down before a 4th and inches Zac Stacy run was stuffed. The Rams would lose by three.

Jared Cook handsplattered an easy touchdown reception before accosting his quarterback because some people have difficulty taking repsonsibility. The Rams would lose by three.

Between the early 21 points and a last gasp touchdown by Austin Pettis, the Rams defense helped the Cowboys raze what was supposed to be a functional defense by going on a 34-3 tear. The Rams would lose by three.

Questionable calls happen. Your hope as a fan should be that they favor neither team, that in the end the foibles of the impossible job of adjudicating an NFL football game in real time to consistent success end up in equal failures that remove any blame from the adjudicators. That didn't happen today. The Rams faced a barrage of bad calls, and a ton of no calls that suggested that Robert Quinn was not held all game. The Rams would lose by three.

I was peaking at the Rams message-boards this evening and man I don't think I've seen so much whining and crying. It's actually quite hilarious.

I'm not going to lie there were some bad calls, but come on the Rams had so many chances to put this game away.

  • Leaving Dez wide-open
  • Allowing a 34 year old quarterback coming of off-season back surgery to run for 16 yards on third and 13, haha. (Did you see the move he gave to the Rams linebacker, smooth)
  • Allowing the same quarterback to stand in the pocket all day on third and 12 and hit a sliding receiver.
  • They talk about holding? BS, the Cowboys line is pretty good give some proof!
  • Dropping a wide open touchdown pass.
The Rams lost to the better team.

lol are they really complaining about holding? their O-line was "holding" as well, refs barely call it nowadays anyway

And there were some huge splash plays where Ram penalties were NOT called. On the Demarco fumble, he was illegally tripped just before the fumble. That play set the tone of the game. Also, the play where Claiborne gave up the TD in the corner had an illegal pick to make it possible for the WR to get open and away from Scandrick.

We definitely benefited from a few questionable calls, but they got away with some stuff for sure that changed the game in big ways.

St Louis has a history of whining crybabies...

I don't see why these St Louis fans are complaining. They should be happy they even had a chance to win. Most of their weekends consist of them getting blown out by a mediocre/bad team (i.e. Minnesota destroying them in week 1).

There were offsetting penalities that fans of each team can cry about. The hit on Romo was pretty bogus and the non-tripping call on Murray's fumble play. I noticed holding on each team that didn't get called. Overall the calls seemed to even out. I'm sure the Rams didn't like the holding call on TWill that gave the Cowboys a 1st down in the 4th quarter however.

Someone send over some kleenex.

Funny how they mention the refs giving us three points on the "roughing the passer" call, yet that was a drive that had a good chance of resulting in three points anyway. Penalty occured at the Rams 37 on 2nd down. 3rd down and 7 they likely pick up a few extra yards or even get the first down. Yeah maybe Bailey would've had to kick a 40 or 50 yarder instead of a 29 yarder, but I like our chances of getting three there regardless.

Bailey hits 40 yarders in his sleep. Dude had never missed from 40

We got some calls, but I'm not going to lose a second of sleep about it. After being hosed by the officials way more times then not in the past, I think we'll take it.

How about that leg whip kick that Demarco took in the first quarter that might have contributed to his fumble? That was a pretty big no call wasn't it?

The rams can get over it. The officials are garbage.

Let them take their medicine.

Guy nailed it...

We had no business winning this game but we did... surreal...

I wouldn't say we had *no* business winning that game... 21 points is tough to overcome, but that lead was early, against a bad team. I have no problem claiming the Cowboys earned this win. And, had Carter not returned that pick-6, have no problem claiming we earned the loss. You don't put up 34 points in 2 1/2 quarters by accident. Someone had to work for it...

You know what I wonder? Why did they go long on the last drive? With their kicker and the dome, they probably don't even need to get into Cowboys territory for a field goal.

That game sealed there faith. Fisher is really a overratted coach,
