Just thought this was interesting. I know Wade is one of the greatest living defensive minds in football, but I wonder how this is going to effect his defense. It really does not seem like his personnel fit in the 3-4. Aaron Donald is a godsend as a 3 technique, Robert Quinn is a prototypical 4-3 DE, who knows if he can play OLB. Can Mark Barron and Alec Ogletree play ILB in a 3-4?

On the flip side, you have guys like Brockers, Easley and Eugene Sims who could look better in a 3-4.

Gutsy move and you do have the guru leading it, but if I'm Aaron Donald, I'm looking for a new place where the scheme is going to fit me.

Tyrone Crawford (and we can throw in Coakley or Anthony Henry) for Donald and David Arkin?

They will probably still play a 4 man line in subpackages, which would be about 70% of the time

I think its a dumb move, and will probably fail like when buffalo switched to 3-4 defense

I wonder if there's any way that DE Robert Quinn might be available?

Looking at his contract, it wouldn't be a big cap hit to trade him if they chose to.

And the Rams are in need of some draft picks after what they gave up to trade up for Goff.

Any thoughts 'Yes' or 'No' on looking into acquiring him?

Always thought he was a great fit here.

I think he's could be too. But, given his history and injuries, there is a certain amount of risk involved. And to keep him won't be cheap if they did acquire him.

But he may be the best option that could actually be available via trade.

It could work out for Donald.

Hell, we had success with a sane Jay Ratliff at the nose under Wade, and well Donald is a top 3 DT. He has the quickness and power to be productive even as a NT in Wades 3-4

I would think Brockers would be the NT and they would have Donald at end and move him around for matchups like JJ Watt was. Wade uses a 1 gap 3-4 so it's more like a 4-3 in that aspect.

Did Wade start the one gap NT with us? I seem to remember having a traditional NT in there at first (Ferguson, I think) and when he got hurt, we were forced to put in Ratliff and we had to play to Rat's strength. Didn't know if his 3-4 evolved with us in that way or what.

No, but he's always adapted his scheme to match his players.

I really think this is a suspect move for the Rams and sort of plays Donald out of position. Maybe I'm wrong but he doesn't seem to be a good fit for the 3-4.

Good teams don't switch from the 3-4 to the 4-3 anymore while dumping half their front 7 guys, they switch between the two from game to game based on situation and personnel. It took years for people to notice the Patriots run 4-3 all the time even though everyone considered them a "3-4 team" on paper or whatever.
