Random Eagles thoughts

It looks like Gocong isn't going to start, considering he missed Wednesday and Thursday with both hamstring and quad injuries suffered in the Giants game. His replacement will be someone named Moise Fokou, a rookie. I would run lots of two-TE sets so they can't replace him with a nickel safety and wear him out with both the run and the pass. The Eagles have had troubles with the TE all year long anyway.

I think Andy Reid is confident. He was unusually talkative on his conference call with the DFW media. Usually he just grunts a few short cliches, as if he'd rather be denied cheesesteaks the rest of his life than meet with this stupid media.

Like most people, I think this will be a shootout. They simply have too many weapons on O, and they have confidence right now. Not a good week for fans of defense.

Of course, how many times have we heard this said by everyone leading up to a game, and then it turns into a low-scoring game?

It still amazes me the Donovan McNabb is the lowest-rated passer vs. the blitz, or whatever that stat is. As big and strong as he is, and as well as he moves, you'd think he would be good at making someone miss and then hitting a big play. Guess not. I'm thinking he's so averse to throwing INTs that he simply throws the ball away and/or into the dirt.

Reading the papers up there, I think they could be overconfident. I saw a lot of sentiment that "Well, too bad about the Phillies, but nothing will make everyone feel better than whipping the Cowboys." Excellent.

I've said it every week, but could this be the week we see some Victor Butler or Curtis Johnson as a situational rusher?

It feels to me like we've stealthily gotten back to being a very physical football team on both sides of the ball. As big as their O-line is, the Eagles are still a finesse team overall. Maybe that will work at this point when the weather is still nice, but I still like being the bigger and stronger team and at some point it will pay off.

Hey Philly, meet Keith Brooking. And oh by the way, Bruce Read isn't in town anymore, either. Enjoy.

I'd love to see our STs set the tone right away.

(When was the last time we could say that? )

Careful dude, I pointed out how the atlanta media and fanbase was very confident and looking to the saints game and many posters and a mod jumped me.

So watch out, and when they come, tell them moise fokou to them.

Reid does seem very confident from what I have heard and read also.

and we know mcnabb is always overconfident.

And watching closely this year, i am not sure he has the same pocket awareness he always had, or he is just arrogant. Against washington and oakland he didnt seem to sense the free rushers coming at him all day.

I hope we bury mcnabb. I can not get that vision of him pointing to the back of his jersey during the 44-6 game. I really cant stand the guy and his moonwalking when they are winning and his instant injuries when their losing.

Something I've noticed that no one has talked about. Dawking is no longer on that team. He was such a Cowboy killer, especially last year. But yet no one has brought that up.

This. Along with Brandon Jacobs he is among my most hated players in the game for the bolded reason. He is a walking (er, limping) excuse machine.

We really can't possibly hit him enough this Sunday to make me happy. I hope he wakes up Monday morning with "94" permanently impressed on his face.

Fixed it for ya

Seriously, behind Eli, Brian Dawkins is my least favorite player ever. Just thinking about him get's me frustrated.

Geez theebs let it go. Nobody jumped you.

CL's thread and yours from three weeks ago are nothing alike. There's no confusion about what CL is referencing.

Now all that said, I think the 'boys can beat Philly. Both Philly and the 'boys have reason to believe in themselves.

Both teams are riding good wins, but I think the 'boys winning streak presents a better case for confidence in their ability. No boneheaded mistakes and I think the 'boys can roll them.

Actually DMN just posted a blog about how it takes three guys to fill Dawkins spot. I was debating whether to post it.

when I had random thoughts about the Eagles today, I had visions of the city of Philadelphia as a vast wasteland after 2012, and watching the USA's GNP climbing in the aftermath because no one cared.

I dunno, weird random thought, I guess.

nothing to see here, move along...
