Here are some observations about the game today
- interior OL was solid today. Costa has really improved since last season.
- say what you want but this D is not the same without Spencer on the field. There is a big drop off with him on the sidelines.
-this D misses Church big time. He was turning into a playmaker and a force against the run.
- it was great to see Witten back in synch with Rmo today. He looks like his old self. Nice to see.
- our team lacks situational awareness. That is a direct result of either poor coaching or dumb players. Maybe a combination of both unfortunately for us.
- Ware was a non factor today. Yes he had a sack but he has been invisible lately. That needs to change.
- if our Secondary really is improved, and I think most would agree that it has, we need to bring the blitz more to get pressure on the QB if our front isn't cutting it. Lee blitzed early and had some pressure but then it seemed like we went away from it.
- Felix really played well today. I know most people are not hot on him and want him gone but with Murray hurt again, Felix is going to be a huge part of our offense. If he plays like he did today he may change some views on his ability. I think he is a good solid player.
- Tyron has really struggled with the move to LT. He needs to improve his performance. He could have been called for a few more holding calls today than he did. His hands tend to go to the outside of the sholder pads time and time again.
- Free played better today but he had nowhere to go but up. His penalties need to get resolved. His footwork seems very slow and sluggish.
- our special teams is not very special. Joe D either needs to get these guys playing better or he needs to go. Our coverage and return teams are, and have been, terrible. This has had a big impact on the teams inability to take the next step IMO. Our ST are a big liability.
- In order for this O to improve its efficiency Miles needs to step up his game. He has a few catches and then he disappears. I don't know if he can't get separation or what but he is a weapon if he has the ball in his hands. He needs to have a bigger role.
- I am one that likes Garrett but his late game clock management is real poor to say the least. This happens frequently with the game on the line and if we are going to be successful this needs to change. I think some of this may be too many duties to deal with. He needs to be the HC. Let Callahan call the plays. He can have input obviously but he needs to concentrate on the game and team as a whole. Especially game management.
- Romo is trashed everywhere I go but I think he makes the most of an offensive unit that is very undisciplined and continues to make basic play assignment mistakes. This cannot be understated.
Yes we lost today but the guys played hard and had a chance to win at the end. The matched the physical play of the Ravens today in a hostile environment. This is huge. This team will continue to improve and will be a factor when it is all said and done. Keep your head up folks.
