now that the seething frustration has died down!.
Over the past few years it seemed to me that the Chargers were our mirror image in the AFC and the optimist in me often wondered if we would meet them in the Super Bowl.
It seemed that the Chargers were often picking right after us in the draft and I wondered how their selections panned out compared to ours
The Merriman Ware debate in the early years is an example
Like us, they had that definitive draft in 05 where they seem to hit on almost every pick. Even recently Cason vs Jenkins could be compared
It seemed their needs were very similar to ours
Comparing roster to roster, I don't see a marked difference in talent.
What I do see is a marked difference in performance.
Compare OLine....their OL outperformed ours and it was comprised of a number of replacement players filling in for injuries. Ours is highly over paid and underacheiving. It seems there is one breakdown somewhere at a critical time. Case in point... Kosier fails to get to the hole before the LB on the fourth down and goal.

Their secondary vs ours. Jenkins was the only one truly competing out there. Newman cashed his check. Even though he intercepted a pass, it was a wounded duck and was out of position on the play. Our safety play is none existent. I am still waiting for a play out of any free safety and Sensebaugh's limitations are now showing
Their secondary did enough to win the game

Linebackers: a seventh round choice-Siler made more big plays than our experienced crew.

Qb-Romo and Rivers, who seems to be playing with unbridled joy and enthusiasm which you could argue has been driven out of Romo. Can you remember how many shots the Chargers took down the field yesterday? Seemed like once every series. Can you remember the last time Romo let it fly? Sheesh

On a positive note, it looks like Garret has figured out how to use Roy Williams

Enough rambling- are we surprised at this turn of events. I guess we shouldn't. The Cowboys added a few nice pieces in free agency but basically took the draft off. Check the contributions from the past draft to NFC East teams!!!!Maclin, McCoy, Harris, Nicks, Sintim, Orakpo. hey Jerry. Rookie receivers can contribute in their first couple years. Dump your philosophy of not picking play makers because it takes too long to develop them. Case in point is Deshean Jackson. He downright scares me.
My take is that it comes down to coaching and good luck to the next coach of the Cowboys to change underacheiving and poor scheming into success

Im a fan of both teams (although bleed Cowboy blue) and do see similarities. Unlike SD, we dont have a GM who knows how to build a team. Also, SD hit rock bottom to acquire talents like LT and Rivers.

Turner like agressive football, where Garrett is trying to be a West Coach OC. SD's WR are tall and work well with Rivers in the Deep pass. Romo doesnt have (with the exception of Austin) WR's who seem to care or scare the D.

SD lost the loser mentality when they let go of Marty Schottenheimer. We need to do the same with Wade and get an agressive coach (unlikely we get Cowher) who instills fear to both our players and opposition.

i totally agree with the agressive coach part. That first San Diego drive was a thing of beauty and I haven't heard any mention of Norv's innovative play calling that just toned down the early game emotional edge the Cowboys may have had.
