It's definitely about the turnover risk. There was a play we used in HS football, I'm talking 9th grade, not varsity, where 2 WRs ran crossing patterns 5-7 yards up field. One guy catches it and hands it off to the other guy crossing. If you're fast, it's a TD almost every time. That's when I didn't drop it. It's even hard to do without a helmet and pads. The exchange is rarely how you practice it.Same here. My best guess is coaches are afraid of the turnovers that would probably occur. But it seems like they could be used more often.
