Random Thoughts on Playoffs

1.Terry Glenn

I think we need Terry Glenn in order to win it all. Crayton has done a very good job, but Glenn's deep speed is definitely a threat that teams must account for. If he's healthy, the threat of him going deep will force teams change the way they play us. My prediction is that if Glenn and TO are healthy, Witten will have a huge playoff run, averaging more than 100 yards receiving per game. Pick your poison.

2. Defense

Another key is our defense which isn't dominant but pretty good. I think we've gotten better as the year has gone along. We haven't played very many games where Newman and Henry have been healthy. I think our pass rush has been pretty good too. It seems like we've been able to dial it up when we've needed it, such as the Green Bay game. I expect big things from our front 7 come playoff time.

3. Late Season slide

I think our so called late season slide is overrated. Losses late in the year or even a poor game you win can be good things too. There are ebbs and flows to every season and I think it is difficult to emotionally play at the exact same high level week after week. The fact that we've had some low key performances is fine provided we get back our intensity for the playoffs.

It is a reminder of the way you have to play to win. Those kind of games are also I think kind of a release that let the pressure out a little bit. It makes the younger players realize they are not invincible and it does not allow the media to keep laying on the cheese.

Unlike New England, the pressure has just built and built and built with each win. Don't get me wrong. What they've done is incredibly impressive, but I just think there is a lot of pressure on them now.

You really aren't too smart. Your team is 9-7 who snuck into the playoffs, and we're 13-3 and have a first round bye.

My god I hope we play you guys again in two weeks. All you idiots who think you're a legit team now because you beat a team who was playing for nothing and rested 6 starters, and also pulling others at half are going to wake up.

This what was needed to get theis team focused again. Keep on hating, because the playoffs are a whole new story from the last 4 weeks of the season. You stupid Skins aren't even going to touch us...if you even advance past Seattle.

Take off YOUR rose colored glasses, homer.

The keys on offense is getting Glenn integrated into the offense and a healthy TO.

I think TO will be fine. I am wondering how long it will take Romo and Glenn to get on the same page. What we don't want to see is any forced passes (obviously) like in the Commanders game.

But maybe another two weeks of practice will get them game ready. And assuming we win our first playoff game, that will give Romo and Glenn even more time.

It's called the gift of desperation....anything, ANYTHING to help them feel as if they are legitimate.

There is probably a good reason why the guy never got off the bench for ten years...

Agreed with the late season slide theory. Read nothing in the week 17 game against the Commanders. That game was predictable given the circumstances. Injuries has also been a contributing factor. Playoffs will have this team focused.

The biggest concern is potentially not having owens.

I disagree.

I do not think we need Terry Glenn to win the Super Bowl.

I think we need a healthy Terrell Owens.

Our offense has looked pretty inept, for whatever reason without Terrell Owens in the lineup.

Also, if they are going to continue to give Julius Jones carries, he must be somewhat effective so Marion Barber doesn't wear himself out and you just don't want to have wasted downs giving Julius Jones the ball.

For whatever reason, I think teams are figuring out ways to slow down TO and Witten. And while I like Crayton, he isn't going to open up the field.

We just need that one receiver who can force defenses to loosen up and potentially give up the big play. Like Austin did versus Green Bay. Austin's speed was a mismatch for the Packers' defense in that he could get behind them.

I think that's what Glenn can do for us on a consistent basis. And I think we need that to win the Super Bowl.

True.

But is that Patrick Crayton's limitations or Jason Garrett failing to adjust when teams start to figure out our offensive schemes?

We need to get back to establishing the run, like we did in the 1st half of the Carolina game where we had 99 Yards rushing.

If our defense can step it up, I think we will be fine.

I agree that we need to get back to the run, like in the Carolina game.

I'm not sure how much more our defense can step up. Our defense has played well versus the Eagles, Carolina, and even the Commanders (given that we were resting TNew and a couple other guys).

I just think to beat a team like the Pats or the Colts in the Super Bowl, we could use one more big threat. I don't see our defense being able to hold either of those two offenses to fewer than 24-28 points. Those two offenses are just too explosive. I think to some degree, we'll have to outscore them and score at least in the mid-30s to expect to win the Super Bowl.

Obviously this is a trollish type comment, but hey I'll bite. Did you read the post? One of the things I said was we need Terry Glenn on the field to win it all. We went 13-3 without him, so the rose colored glasses thing to say would have been that we will win with or without him. That's not what I said.

The other things are backed up pretty well. BTW, I would welcome a game against the Commanders. They are the weakest team in the playoffs, although admittedly they are hot right now. With our pressure, things could snowball in a hurry for Collins.
