Just some random thoughts about the Cowboys, where they are right now and some challenges they face.
  • The Cowboys are 3-3-1 with just over 40% of the season done.
  • The team right now is exactly what our record says it is - mediocre. We need to at least win two games in a row before I can say this is a good team.
  • Our 3 wins are against teams with losing records - a combined 5-16.
  • Our 3 losses are against winning teams with a combined record of 13-7.
  • Our offense has been top shelf behind Dak, George Pickens and Javonte Williams. Our defense…was a little better Sunday.
  • On DeMarvion Overshown’s soon return- he injured his knee on Dec. 9th last year vs the bengals. It’s been 10 months and 12 days. With two knee surgeries in two years, I would be cautious about bringing him back too soon. We need him now of course but we need him long term too.
  • Trade talk right now is premature. The trade deadline is two weeks away. Win the next two against Denver and Arizona and it should be considered.

While it’s been 10 months I do believe DeMo’s work ethic and advancement in medicine has put him ahead of schedule. If he’s healthy and ready to play you play him, but you have to be smart and put him on a pitch count.

As far as trades are concerned I think we will know more after this weekend win or lose.

Yes mediocre, but the offense and Dak are playing at an insane level right now. I don’t think the record is what this team is right now because of the offense.

Cowboys win the next two. It's now or never on those trades.
Cowboys go 1-1, might consider a bargain trade that only wants later round picks.
Cowboys lose the next 2 games, hope for the best on trading down to get more talent next year's draft.

Yes, we are absolutely mediocre (which is better than I thought we'd be).

Just take each game 1 at a time, see how the season plays out and if we get to 7 wins or 10 and sneak the playoffs, fine.

Just don't burn these 4 1s now, save them for the next 2 drafts and go D D D D.

All negatives which is your right to be that way.

The defense showed improvement on Sunday. Hopefully they can keep improving.

The offense is currently the best in the NFL.

Some good players are coming back from injury and should help out going forward as they’ll need to knock of the rust.

The trade deadline line is approaching and all indications are that Jerry is trying to add some defensive help.

Aubrey continues to be a weapon of mass destruction and should get votes for MVP. Probably won’t but that’s how well he’s playing.

The HC has the locker room willing to go through walls for him. That bodes well going forward.

How is saying a 3-3-1 team is just mediocre being negative?

Win the next two against Denver and Arizona and I could support splash move trades for an impactful DE AND LB.
I think I have fallen into the group that feels this year's elite level offense and special teams should be supported by making strong defensive acquisitions THIS year.

The old way ain't working Jerry so
go back to your roots of spending to better your team. It may cost a pick(s) or player(s) BUT just get us a couple of alfa defenders and let's take it from there.
BUT the key is beating both Denver AND Arizona first before any of this...

Great post. The offense is Marylin Monroe and the defense is Bea Arthur. Jerry better gets a lot more Marilyn's on the defense quick.

Yep.
You nailed it here.
Exactly.

Not a fan of the winning/losing percentage unless you remove the cowboys games from the equation. 3 losses make the combined winning % look colossal but take away the 3 cowboys games the combine record is not 10-7, same with losing record, take out the 3 wins it is 5-13 not much better but overall records of teams played are 15-20.

A good chance of being 5 and 3 and 1 at the bye and getting better on defense with a trade or 2.

Yeah the trade talks I'm torn on how much they're going to let shotty see a need and they let him get that need

I need to see more wins as well against better opponents, it's good to see minor progression from this team

This, the Denver game will tell us alot, a win here and then maybe see more talk about a DL but a loss then that is something totally different. You can’t keep win one lose one and be taken seriously, plus after losing to the bears and panthers, we should beat a team we shouldn’t to make up for it.

Totally agree this team needs to be consistent
