Random thoughts on recent developments

While it’s been 10 months I do believe DeMo’s work ethic and advancement in medicine has put him ahead of schedule. If he’s healthy and ready to play you play him, but you have to be smart and put him on a pitch count.

As far as trades are concerned I think we will know more after this weekend win or lose.

Yes mediocre, but the offense and Dak are playing at an insane level right now. I don’t think the record is what this team is right now because of the offense.
The offense is about a 9.3
The dense is about a 1.3
5.3 would be their average.

Another interesting random thought:
  • Since Jan, 2024, the Cowboys have played 25 games, including the bad packers playoff loss. Their record in those 25 games is 10-14-1.
Yep, but I dont like the negative tone this portrays

Just some random thoughts about the Cowboys, where they are right now and some challenges they face.
  • The Cowboys are 3-3-1 with just over 40% of the season done.
  • The team right now is exactly what our record says it is - mediocre. We need to at least win two games in a row before I can say this is a good team.
  • Our 3 wins are against teams with losing records - a combined 5-16.
  • Our 3 losses are against winning teams with a combined record of 13-7.
  • Our offense has been top shelf behind Dak, George Pickens and Javonte Williams. Our defense…was a little better Sunday.
  • On DeMarvion Overshown’s soon return- he injured his knee on Dec. 9th last year vs the bengals. It’s been 10 months and 12 days. With two knee surgeries in two years, I would be cautious about bringing him back too soon. We need him now of course but we need him long term too.
  • Trade talk right now is premature. The trade deadline is two weeks away. Win the next two against Denver and Arizona and it should be considered.
Just some random thoughts…
Nice. I'll add
  • LB James took over due to injury and looks to be an ascendant player.
  • Flournoy emerged as a likely successor to Tolbert and allows our offense to survive without WR1a and WR1b in a pinch.
  • Playing more man and blitzing more lead to the minor surge the defense had, but do we make that change going forward, or go back to our predictible 95% zone?

Cowboys win the next two. It's now or never on those trades.
Cowboys go 1-1, might consider a bargain trade that only wants later round picks.
Cowboys lose the next 2 games, hope for the best on trading down to get more talent next year's draft.
If the Cowboys are going to wait to see if they win the next two games to make a trade they’ll have 17 hours to make a deal. Teams moving players may want a sure thing rather than wait that close to the deadline.

Win the next two against Denver and Arizona and I could support splash move trades for an impactful DE AND LB.
I think I have fallen into the group that feels this year's elite level offense and special teams should be supported by making strong defensive acquisitions THIS year.

The old way ain't working Jerry so
go back to your roots of spending to better your team. It may cost a pick(s) or player(s) BUT just get us a couple of alfa defenders and let's take it from there.
BUT the key is beating both Denver AND Arizona first before any of this...
The problem is that other teams will be making moves as well. Moreover, if you are trading for a player you want as much runway as you can have with that player on the team.

I’m not saying we SHOULD make a trade but if we are going to make a move, now is probably the right time. As long as we are sold on the player not being a one year rental, then that player will contribute on down the road.

I don’t know why we would pay Dak with a Brinks truck and then go .500. We could have done that without Dak.

Great post. The offense is Marylin Monroe and the defense is Bea Arthur. Jerry better gets a lot more Marilyn's on the defense quick.

So, according to those with a stick up their behinds....they're dead, so that means our offense is dead....I mean, why would we want dead players on defense? Geez, no sense of humor around here. Lol

I think we need to go 3-0 till the bye. 2-1 maybe? I'd make a move for a DT or DE. second or 3rd rounder given back. Think people. Clark goes down. Who are we stuck with??  We need a DE and D-tackle. IMHO
If Clowney keeps playing like he did last week.. and the kids keep improving, we may be ok at DE.

So let’s assume we don’t resign Pickens and or Williams. How does that change our prospects moving forward to next year?

Especially if we don’t have a top offense . The fact we have a top running back this year which I never dreamed possible changes everything for me this year.

I thought Dak would struggle without a running game. And having an awful defense would accommodate a poor offense totally dependent on throwing the ball , probably leading to a losing record.

But now it’s all changed for me with this offense . I’m in a win now mode. I dont see many offenses around the league more potent than this one right now. If only we could hold teams averaging less than 30 points a game .

A couple years out who knows what our offense will look like . And if we don’t resign Pickens or Williams we might be using some of those draft picks to replace them.

We didn’t use our Cap money on Micah. Let’s use it on these two now. Before it’s gets even more expensive.
Jerry only sees the present.

I think this year for Overshown is more about getting ready for next year. He needs to build confidence in his knee and get some reps but don’t expect many reps or much impact

To me trade talk is about ghe player, his contract and the cost. First I’m not trading both GB picks. I’m not trading either for a guy with less than 3 years on his contract. No trading high picks for a guy you then have to sign. That’s just not feasible. A guy on his last year who can help and won’t cost a high picks for I’d consider if we win Sunday. If we can’t win Sunday then I’d rather just keep my picks and build next year. Also there’s no one played gonna make this defense good, but the right player could make them avg and that’s just goid enough to get you in the playoffs with this offense

Jerry only sees the present.
Yes sir . And why our strategies don’t apply and unfortunately should influence us to come up with solutions within his mindset. Cause normal protocol doesn’t apply. Sad but our reality.
