3 Billion Dollars is 3 Billion Dollars no matter what the release date of the article is.

So what it came out last month. Your really confused? Why? What's so confusing about it?

Most of us don't even follow baseball here at CBZ. So to most of us its NEWS when posted here.

Keep up.

This is unbelievable, everything is coming together. This is like a movie for a team in bankruptcy , a manager who got busted using Coke. Josh Hamilton MVP who had well known issues.
As a fan of 30 yrs. me and my friends always went to Rangers game for the luv of the game and to watch Major League level w/out the thought of the team actually winning.
Hollywood should be all over this title " Nolans Team". World Series highlights.

Who will be world series mvp prediction?

holy crap. 150 million a year in revenue before a game is even played. WOW. Things really couldn't be much better for the Rangers now. That's enough to guarantee that Cliff stays in town.

Hopefully they wont land Crawford though, I want him on the Braves. They need him far more :x

Actually in this case, 3 billion dollars is now actually 1.6 billion dollars.

The original story had wildly inflated figures, and it's not apparent if even the 1.6 billion dollar figure is totally accurate. It pays to keep current after all.

That said, it'll still be an increase over the current ~$20M/season they get from TV, to probably at least ~$50M/season. The deal won't start until 2014, but will include some up-front money. So the Rangers will be players in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes, but nothing certain either way.

Unfortunately, Liberty media has already said they're keeping payroll the same. Which won't be enough to sign Crawford, unless someone takes Derek Lowe's contract off the Braves' hands (hopefully) or Chipper retires (hopefully not).

I still think of it as Jon Daniels' team. He was around before Ryan, and makes most of the baseball decisions. It was a big thing when he ws hired in 2005, just 28 years old and dismissed by some as "another sabremetrics disciple", but he may be the best GM in baseball (either him or Tampa Bay Rays GM Andrew Friedman).

My gut says Hamilton, at least in the 1st two games Cruz is going to be hitting behind him, so I doubt they will continue to walk him, and if that is the case you may see Cruz stay behind him even once we return home.

I HOPE Bengie gets it, I think that dude really deserves it and maybe should have gotten it for the NY series. The guy is solid behind the plate, plays a huge roll in our pitchers doing well, and had his bat going really well, and even when he did get out he batted smart, on top of that he just never seeks the attention and just gets his job done. But I dont think he will get it.

Probably going to be Hamilton or cruz.

The deal for actually for $1.6B (about $80M a year) The $3B number is incorrect.

The guy that reported $3B at USAToday must feel like a heel right about now.

The Rangers can re-sign Cliff Lee if it is only about the money. There could be other factors involved.

Greenberg said he is raising the payroll from it's current $54M to closer to $90M.

With that they can definitely resign Lee. What I worry about the most is the resigning of everyone else.

I believe they are going to resign Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz long term now since they are arbitration eligible and want to have them signed through the year they become free agents (two years from now)

Guerrero is on a 1 year deal, so if they want him next year too they have to resign him. Same with Molina and Darren Oliver if they want to keep them around.

Colby Lewis will still have one year left, so he will be a FA in 2012. Thats something you have to think about too. They maybe raising their payroll by $40M, but if they resign Cliff Lee for $20+M a season, thats going to eat half of the money right away. If it's closer to $30M, that leaves $10M for pay raises for everyone else.

Not sure how this is going to work out.

You Ranger fans out there, do your part. Buy some Rangers garb to support the team if you've got cash to do so.

I picked up the 2010 red playoffs hoodie and a claw and antlers shirt. If they win a WS, I will grab a WS tshirt and hoodie for that too.

Rangers have $32M in committed salary next year.

The following players have options/team control:

Guerrero- $9M ($1M buyout included in above figure, unless they option and Guerrero declines)

Josh Hamilton- will get approx. $10M in arbitration if he wins the MVP.

CJ Wilson- will get approx. $5M in arbitration

Darren Oliver- $3.25M option (0.5M buyout incl. in above figure)

Nelson Cruz- will get approx. $3M in arbitration

Appropriate another $10M for guys making league minimum (not included above) and etc. Thats about $62.5M in payroll, without Guerrero. Given Vlad's production, I think that option gets picked up, since he's worth a bit more than $8M (the marginal cost of keeping him). So it's $70.5M. They will certainly have some payroll room to play around with, whether it's working out extensions for guys or keeping Cliff Lee (but probably not both).

Cliff Lee's eventual deal will probably be like $23-$25M/year (about CC Sabathia money).

Crawford is a native son..

I truly believe Lee coming back is all but a formality now..

Never explored the Crawford angle before, but he IS a native Texan. Can you imagine the OF with Cruz, Crawford and Hamilton? Craw and Andrus' speed on the basepaths??

Yikes.
