What FA's or trades do you see the Rangers getting involved in?

sign roy oswalt
trade for heath bell to become our closer, move feliz to set up, and have adams as the seventh inning guy.

CJ has said he would like to stay so that's a possibility. I'm afraid Pujols is wanting to break the bank to the tune of a 200M contract.

Oliver does need to go...Bell might be a nice option

I personally wouldn't mind this list shaking out at all. I'd be pretty pleased with that.

CJ needs to give them a good deal and he needs to find a freaking backbone when it comes to pressure situations. He was awful (of course that's just my opinion) in the World Series.

If they can land CJ for five years at sub $100M, then I do it. (maybe at exactly $100M)

No way Albert is coming to Texas. The Cardinals will have an unlimited budget to sign him. They absolutely cannot let Albert walk.

Rangers would have a far better shot at Prince Fielder. Though, I don't like it. They are going to command huge money that I think would be better spent on in-house talent that is coming up as FA soon enough.

Besides Pitching >>>>>>>>> Offense.

Offense is something we have, I want pitching and right now. CJ, Roy, and that Japanese kid would be my top targets.

I think CJ will give the Rangers a discount to keep him, and his playoff performance had to hurt his bargaining position, so I believe there is a good chance he will stay.

Under your scenario where does Ogando fit in? Still using him as a starter? If so, who drops out of the rotatiion to make room for Oswalt?

I'm not that big on Oswalt. Aging and declining and had some injury issues last season.

I doubt we will spend the money for either Pujols or Fielder. They would be a nice big bat in the middle of the lineup, but after breaking the bank on A-Rod and seeing that fail I doubt we will do it again.

I'm really more interested in developing a bit more consistency in the batting lineup. A quality .300+ hitter to play CF would be a nice addition. Do you think the Red Sox would give us Ellsbury for Teagarden?

I think Oswalt's future is as a long reliever / spot starter.

I think they look at both of them, (I think you have too) but neither will be within the Rangers budget. They still have Moreland who didn't play as well as his rookie year, but he is still very young. I think he is going to be a good player for a hell of a lot less than Albert or Prince.

I think the Rangers like Gentry quite a bit. I think they believe he can be a Rusty Greer type player in the future. Not a super star, but a good player. A Bill Bates.

lol :lmao2:

Maybe they would trade us Adrian Gonzalez for Mitch Moreland to play first base? :lmao2: :lmao:

Would Oswalt do that? I can't recall many (any?) starters who have been as successful as Oswalt who made a move to long reliever.

Interesting thought about Genetry. I assumed they viewed him pretty much as they used him this past season. He's about 28 and ususally if a guy is going to have a future as starting player he has played more before age 28 than Gentry has. But I certainly can't say I know what the Rangers thinking is on Gentry. You could be right.

I think both trades would be good. Ellsbury and Gonzales would look pretty good in our lineup. You probably already know this, but the Rangers were Gonzales' original team.

I doubt the Sox would let Gonzales go. It sounds as if they already plan to let Poppy walk. If that happens, Gonzales is going to become a big part of their offense. He is going to have to generate a lot of power for them.

Not much is gonna happen from the outside. One of the biggest things will be Leonys Martin developing and winning the starting CF spot...that is a must for this team's future.

Rotation will probably be the same except without CJ Wilson. The Rangers don't sound like re-signing him is a must priority or else they would've made a move already when they had the exclusive rights to negotiate with him.

It's gonna be a down year anyway, just try to play as many kids as possible and let them develop. No to Oswalt, he's done. Also not really big on this Yu Darvesh, it sounds like he's got a huge bust potential. Not worth the money he'd get...even worse than CJ Wilson. Just roll with Holland, Lewis, Ogando, and Harrison again and let the 5th spot be a battle between Feldman and whoever (maybe Tanner Scheppers). We do need another lefty in the rotation though but I dunno where it will come from since Martin Perez isn't ready yet. Free agent starting pitchers generally don't do too well here at the Ballpark so it would just be a waste of money. The best bet is to develop their own. However, if Mike Maddux takes a managerial job, they're probably done anyway

Throw in Adrian Gonzalez for Mitch Moreland AND Julio Franco would be the most likely situation. :D

We are just talking nonsense and not seriously thinking Gonzales is available.

Grady Sizemore could be a guy that might fit. His last few years have not been great but he has been injured. If he is healthy, he is pretty productive. When he sees 600 ABs or so, he's a 25 to 30 HR guy with anywhere from 75 to 100 RBIs. He gives you a little pop in the middle of your order and he has a lifetime .993 fielding percentage. He has never had more then 3 errors in any season. Only 14 in 8 seasons. I think he would be reasonable as well.

Sizemore has had some very nice seasons, but what I would hope for is to add to the consistency at the plate, and despite his nice power numbers he strikes out a hell of a lot. Overall the Rangers offense is very good, and they certainly have guys that can hit the long ball, but they go through slumps ocasssionally, especially when the HR's don't happen, and it strikes me they could stand to have another bat that can be counted on to consistently put the ball in play. At least if a player is putting the ball in play, even if he doesn't get a base hit the AB can be productive (sacrifice, moving runners over, getting on by error).

No, CJ was going to test free agency. There was no way he was going to sign with the Rangers before hand unless they threw the house at him. The Rangers weren't going to do that because they too wanted to first see what CJ's value was at. (especially after his terrible post season)

Why would you say this? If Maddux leaves, that could lead to a somewhat down year. Probably definitely wouldn't return to the WS, but this team can win games on offense alone. (like in the past) We've got to keep the pitching at a high level.

Nods. No way in hell would the Redsox part ways with Ellsbury or Gonzales.

Those two are their non-pitching corner stone players.

But we can live with our current 2nd baseman, so we'll just take Ellsbury and Gonzales. I might even be willing to sweeten the deal by throwing Oliver in with Teagarden and Moreland. How could the Sox possibly say no?

I like the Rangers team we have now. No major weaknesses on defensive (besides pitching).

Get CJ back and maybe another starter. And find another reliever/closer.

I think both Martin and Gentry have great potential with this team.

Just try to improve from within and get a couple of pitchers. But I definitely we can make the playoffs again, I'm not impressed with the division. Another division title will be nice. I think this is a regrouping year more than a rebuilding year. There aren't many FAs that impress me too much.
