along for the ride or not - he won a superbowl.
only he and johnson that i know of have won at collegiate and pro levels.

if you wanna say "but he inherited the team!!!!" great.

jimmy, the same one who built that team you won't give switzer credit for, went to miami. this *miami* team just the year before johnson said should win it all.

so johnson inherited a team he felt coudl win a superbowl yet he didn't do it. so it must not be "talent" alone. but talent, coaching, luck and so forth.

switzer still got it done despite how much people may not care for him as a person.

Please we are Cowboys, that means SBs.

1. Landry

2. Johnson

3. Switzer

4a. Parcells

4b. Gailey

6. Campo

Parcells and Gailey had pretty much the same record as coach, and what happen 15-20 years ago has no impact on what happend as coach here.

Now when Phillips wins us number 6 the rankings will look like this:

1. Landry

2. Johnson

3. Phillips

4. Switzer

5. Parcells, his helping put this team together seperates him from Gailey.

6. Gailey

7. Campo

Daryl Johnston said on the 1995 Americas Team Segment that they won in spite of the head coach, and that other players and teams couldnt believe they won virtually by coaching themselves.

k - he still got it done. he was very different than jimmy so it's no huge surprise his methods would seem different.

maybe he didn't do anything. but to win on both levels - no one is that "lucky" - talent must be in there somewhere; like the guy or not.

1. Tom Landry. This is obvious.

2. Jimmy Johnson. Wish he'd have stuck around longer.

3. Barry Switzer. Jimmy's team or not, he won a Championship, that is the point.

4. Bill Parcells. I really wish he had more success here.

5. Chan Gailey. Deserved more than 2 years.

6. Wade Phillips. Until he proves something he stays here.

7. Dave Campo. The only one who never deserved a shot in the first place.

If you swap when Switzer and Gailey took over, I think Gailey would've had as much success and kept it together longer than Switzer did. I also don't think Switzer could've inherited the team Gailey did and led them to two playoff appearances.

As for Wade, it's way too early to tell.

I like those 2 but also want to give Parcells credit for rebuilding this team IF Phillips is successful in winning our first playoff game since Jan 97. If God (mean no disrespect) is smiling on his Cowboys and we win the next SB, then I'd vote to add Phillips to the list & also Parcells in gratitude for rebuilding the Cowboys so that Phillips could take them to the next level -- just like Gruden with the Bucs the year after Dungy was fired.
