I know we've gone back and forth over whether the drafting has actually improved in Dallas in recent years. This is another of those standing debates that I've never really understood why it was a hot-button topic since the results were fairly evident, but it's nice to see the hard work pay off and the debate put to rest.

That debate has been out to rest, right?

Yep

Great drafts = jerry and mcclay doing their jobs well

Great drafts but NO REAL post season success = coaching void

I guess debate has been settled
Right ?

Yep, it has been put to rest.

It would have been even better if they had gone back to 2010 and 2011 (Dez, Lee and Tyron)

Yeah. They had some good players in their primes on the roster, then added the QB. Although Manning did coast into that championship on fumes. That defense was legit, though.

not to mention they did go on a free agent bonanza that paid off.

and Dallas drafting has really improved. A lot of weight to this exercise on lightning in a bottle with Dak. 2014 is looking like a disaster, even worse when you consider the bright spot was taken ahead of Landon Collins.

I still trust them though.

2014: Zack Martin, Demarcus Lawrence, Anthony Hitchens a disaster?

lol... oops. I meant 15.

obviously in hindsight having Zeke now cures a lot, but missing out on a running back in a deep class still hurts, they got caught with their pants down and the domino effect was forcing their hands into drafting zeke @ 4 the following year. byron over landon, gregory in general (even though I was an advocate) chaz 'sweaty' green at all, let alone in the third. etc etc.

And to think this drops off our 2011 draft that produced Tyron, Murray, Bruce Carter (decent career if a knucklehead), Dwayne Harris, Dan Bailey and Chris Jones.

2012-2016: 22 of the 39 players drafted during those years are still on the team. That is 56%! 3 of the 39 players are still in the league (Claiborne, Wilcox, and Terrance Mitchell) and Street was just released from the Jets. I am not sure if Escobar signed with anyone. Only in 2016 were the Cowboys 'gifted' with picking in the top of the draft. Claiborne was a trade up. So, the Cowboys were able to have outstanding success the past 5 years while drafting middle of the pack to the end of the drafts. That is just plain awesome.

2013 - Best player in the draft that year, Frederick
2014 - Best player in the draft that year, Martin
2016 - Top 2 best players in the draft that year, Elliott and Prescott. Throw in possibly the best DL in that year's draft (Collins) and possibly the best CB (Brown) in that year's draft. And, I believe quite possibly the best LB in that year's draft (Smith). The top player of that year's draft at 5 different positions. That is how good that draft just might be.

I also think the Cowboys would score in the top 5 of all teams when it comes to undrafted FAs the past 5 years.

edit: The Cowboy homer in me forgot about Bosa. So maybe Collins is the 2nd best DL in that draft :)

He coasted into the one he won on fumes, yes. That was pretty much all defense that season. Especially at the end and in the playoffs. But Manning's years before then were really good. Although they did get knocked out early at home a few years. The year they went to the Super Bowl against Seattle, that was the offense carrying the load, as it was a lot of years in Denver before they finally won it all.

Now with Manning out and they don't seem to have a real QB they can rely on, you will see those bad drafts rear their ugly head.

Lol. Great stuff.

And Escobar is in KC now, which is sort of weird.
