So which one of these guys was the most effective? And why? Rank them 1-4.
For me:
  • 1. Bill Callahan-2012-14- Did a great job with the run game, especially 2014 with DeMarco Murray.1-1 in the playoffs. Romo had his best year in 2014 under Callahan.
  • 2. Kellen Moore- 2019-22- his regular season offenses were consistently to shelf. Playoffs were another story. 1-2 in the playoffs.
  • 3. Scott Linehan-2015-18- two of his three years we made the playoffs but was way too quick to abandon the run game. 1-2 in the playoffs.
  • 4. Jason Garrett- 2007-11- His offenses were pretty decent early on with Romo but much like his personality, a bit vanilla. 1-2 in the playoffs. His 2007 team had the #1 seed but was a disappointing first round exit.
Interesting that all 4 of these OCs won one playoff game in their tenure but were never able to get another in the next round.
How would you rank these guys?

2007 had the best WR this team has had with TO being in his prime.

2014 had Dez in his prime.

Kellen had prime Amari for 3 years.

Note every time the offense falls flat it’s due to personnel not scheme which is how it is across the league. Look at Belichick. Without Brady he doesn’t look so smart now.

Brian Schottenheimer…not a name I would associate with words like “innovative”, “creative”, “cutting edge”. His name conjures up terms like “DNA fortunate”, “good ol boy”, “Linehan lite”, etc.

Let’s remember that our new guy is not installing his offense or calling plays. He doesn’t need to be creative or innovative. His job is to support McCarthy as basically an offensive assistant. He will help install, coach, and help with the details of Mike’s offense and game plan. His experience, maturity, and familiarity with McCarthy should be a great help.
This will be McCarthy’s offense, his creativity and innovation, his adjustments throughout the season, his game plans, and his play-calling.

It will be impossible to compare Brian Schottenheimer to previous OC’s unless we see for ourselves or hear from players and McCarthy that he was a better teacher and drew more attention to details.

Everything else is McCarthy. Brian Schottenheimer is to Mike McCarthy as Eric Bieniemy is to Andy Reid.

Look. He is going to herd the cats during the week and hopefully provide MM with a template to work with on game day. MM will definitely have input on the game plan. I wouldn't fret.

Hilarious when the last 4 were literally two sides of the same coin.

I can see this off season is going to be painful.

1. Linny- light years ahead of JG and Moore because he actually had to coach his way to being an OC. He also tweaked the offense Dak’s rookie year that allowed him to be successful.

4. JG. Because he sucks.

Moore and Cally are on par but regardless all of them ran the same offense essentially.

People act like it’s no big deal but Mike bringing in his offense is huge! It’s been 15 years and tons of talents wasted on button hooks!
