2007 had the best WR this team has had with TO being in his prime.

2014 had Dez in his prime.

Kellen had prime Amari for 3 years.

Note every time the offense falls flat it’s due to personnel not scheme which is how it is across the league. Look at Belichick. Without Brady he doesn’t look so smart now.
2007 , Gimpy Terry and just returned from injury Terrell and reliable- but decided to goof off - Crayton were the WRs , hardly the group was prime .

Production over the whole season. Not just the playoff game.

1. Moore
2.Linehan ( I blame Garrett for his faults )
3. Callahan (awful but he couldn’t do what he wanted)
4. Garrett (he didn’t belong in the NFL as a coach)
I blame Garrett for Moore's faults. Moore's system is a hybrid of what he learned from Linehan and Garrett. It has the same structure with some tweaks to it, so we've been running variations of Garrett's bland designs since he was OC. I'm hoping McCarthy buries the bones, but I'm concerned that he's just going to try to build off what was there as well.

So which one of these guys was the most effective? And why? Rank them 1-4.
For me:
  • 1. Bill Callahan-2012-14- Did a great job with the run game, especially 2014 with DeMarco Murray.1-1 in the playoffs. Romo had his best year in 2014 under Callahan.
  • 2. Kellen Moore- 2019-22- his regular season offenses were consistently to shelf. Playoffs were another story. 1-2 in the playoffs.
  • 3. Scott Linehan-2015-18- two of his three years we made the playoffs but was way too quick to abandon the run game. 1-2 in the playoffs.
  • 4. Jason Garrett- 2007-11- His offenses were pretty decent early on with Romo but much like his personality, a bit vanilla. 1-2 in the playoffs. His 2007 team had the #1 seed but was a disappointing first round exit.
Interesting that all 4 of these OCs won one playoff game in their tenure but were never able to get another in the next round.
How would you rank these guys?

Unfair to compare records of coordinators. Team game.

Garrett and Moore were paired with the best defenses. Callahan didn't have a whiff of those defenses. Meanwhile, Callahan got Tony at an MVP level in 2014.

Also, with Linehan, it's unclear how much he was the coordinator and not Tony. Brice Butler reported that Tony was making the weekly game plan. Pair that with "kill kill kill", and who knows just how much Linehan was running the offense. I think Garrett hired Linehan as a "no threat to the HC" OC.

Though it's hard to judge, I'm with you on the order. And with Callahan, we also got a great oline coach. Twofer.

2007
Gimpy Terry played his last football game ever. Even with a full offseason to heal, he never played another down in the league. He had nothing to give.

TO made a superfreak comeback, 3 weeks out of a high ankle sprain, but clearly was running out of gas in the second half of the game.

That left Crayton, at best suited to be a #3, as the only healthy WR on the field in the 2nd half, choking on two monster plays, including what *should have been* the game winner.

2006 was the best WR corps we've had probably since the 70s. TO, Glenn, and Witten all playing like they're in their primes.

They rank with all the rest that couldn't get us to a championship game

Not good enough to overcome Jerry at the GM position

How would you rank these guys?

1. Garrett- his offenses helped develop Romo in his first full season into the QB he became . And our offense in those years carried one of our most historically bad defenses . Garrett’s offense would continue thru Callahans, Linehans and Moores tenure which has been the dominating force for Cowboys this era.

2. Moore took our offense to the next level developing Prescott into more than just a Bus Driver with top offenses in last two years when Prescott was healthy.

3. Callahan was more of an OL coach and where he has spent most of his career. The pounding running game was developed under his watch with 1st round picks on OL to take pressure off Romo.

4. Linehan was basically brought in as he was familiar with Garrett’s offense and we were never sure if he was totally in charge of play calling.

And I wouldn’t rank Coordinators by playoff wins. That’s usually more on HC’s. Our offense thru most of this era has been the force which has carried our franchise . And these OC helped develop an undrafted and 4th round pick which never intended to be our Franchise QB. They all should receive more credit than criticism.

All trash.

I don't know what's worse....the trash we ran at OC or the fact the Commanders had McVey, Shanahan and Lafleur come through their team and their offense sucks lol.

Garrett didn't develop crap. Jerry told the idiot to just clap and he did. That's all he did, except shank poor ole Wade in the back.

Brian Schottenheimer…not a name I would associate with words like “innovative”, “creative”, “cutting edge”. His name conjures up terms like “DNA fortunate”, “good ol boy”, “Linehan lite”, etc.
It’s hard not to think of our last Legacy Son at OC — Dave Shula. We all remember how that worked out.

Actually it kinda worked out good, he sucked so bad Jimmy replaced him with Norv. Glad he really sucked instead of just being ok.

Awful.

Linehan was halfway decent but so much of the Garrett years was us hoping Romo could carry us to a win.
And until this season, Dak's tenure was no different. This is the first year in the last 30 years that we can say the defense was good enough to have a chance to contend.

1. Linny- light years ahead of JG and Moore because he actually had to coach his way to being an OC. He also tweaked the offense Dak’s rookie year that allowed him to be successful.

4. JG. Because he sucks.

Moore and Cally are on par but regardless all of them ran the same offense essentially.

People act like it’s no big deal but Mike bringing in his offense is huge! It’s been 15 years and tons of talents wasted on button hooks!
Garrett by far and a way is at the bottom of any list.
