Im really sick of the argument that OU is playing better ball than Texas right now.
Technically OU has played better ball than Texas all season long... EXCEPT for the OU Texas game where Texas BEAT them.
OU was heavily favored going into the RRS and left the great state of Texas with an L next to their record and a 10 point loss to swallow.
Also anyone who has payed attention has watched Texas's defense grow all season and as much as we talk about the offense of OU, Texas defense was still the deciding factor in the RRS.
OU hasn't put together enough good games on defense vs Quality NCAA opponents to change my mind about this major flaw with that team.
The Tech game was the exception but for OU it is not the rule. That game was the best performance on D OU has had against a top opponent since Vennables was given the D coordinator position.
OU DOES have a better Offense than Texas. But Texas has the much better defense. They have better Pro talent on that side of the ball and are much, much, much better coached.
Colt McCoy vs Bradford is not really a Question in my mind.
If OU had Colt and Texas had Bradford I believe the Sooners would be undefeated right now.
Colt can overcome a lot of things. He is a bigtime playmaker at the Quarterback position.
If OU had a defense they would have beat Texas in October and what will most likely happen is Urban Meyer will have a month to look at the Bob Stoops/Brent Vennables coached defense and absolutely tear it to shreds like many other bigtime coaches have in the past.
But thats OK.. OU has shown the ability to overcome teams lighting them up on defense.
The problems occurs when they play teams with = or better talent that play great defense like Texas.
Floridas defense will shut down an Oklahoma offense just enough early to make the entire world watch the snow ball effect happen to the Sooners... AGAIN.
As far as the voting goes I would be interested to see if the Voters would put Texas 1 spot ahead of OU if the rolls were reversed. Texas has beat OU 3 out of the last 4 years so OU having Texas's number is really just a thing of the past.
Im not even going to go into Texas's 4 game gauntlet only to lose on the last play, on the road, in the last game of that gauntlet.
So please NCAA. Let Texas play for the National title. Please reward the team that has emphasized Defense in a conference that is so offensive based.
Don't get enamored with OU's blowouts. Please dont let them go to the National title game and turn into Texas Tech/Mizzou when they face a team with =/better talent.
And on top of that if OU were to somehow win than you have a very Mythical National Champion and Possibly a split National Championship.
I just don't want to watch the Big 12 title game knowing the better team who beat both teams in the Big 12 title game by double digits will not be playing because Voters got enamored with Big Offensive Blowouts instead of Defense that beat that enamoring Offense HEAD to HEAD.
