Don't forget to attach it to a several million dollar telescope! ;)

Meh. What good is a multi-million dollar telescope if I can't get $10K worth of breast augmentation in front of it? :D

That's one of the things I love about living out in the middle of nowhere - the stars. My 8" Celestron Dobsonian isn't any good for photography but it's a lot of fun at our occasional backyard star parties.

Not being able to see or hear our neighbors is wonderful.

I am an amateur archeoastronomer and have made several discoveries among the pictographs of Paint Rock, Texas, a hotbed of ancient astronomy. Google Paint Rock, TX pictographs

I missed this post when you posted it. When/if I move back to Texas, I might have to pay you a visit. I will bring my telescopes!

I just happened across this photo of Mars. I think it's the best picture I've ever seen of Mars from space.

One of the good things about living on the Big Island of Hawaii was being able to drive up to the top of Mauna Kea to visit the observatories. A friend of mine knows a scientist that works up there and she has been able to go inside the Keck observatory and look though the telescope. The observatories are at almost 14,000 foot elevation. There is a station down at about 9,800 feet where people set up their telescopes and will let you look through them. It was a pretty neat experience even though I'm not really into astronomy. For those of you who are into it, if you take a vacation to Hawaii go to the Big Island and take one of the tours up there. You'll enjoy it.

Come on down and bring your new 10" dob. One of my most joyous moments as an amateur was when Mars was close a few years ago I was able to see the polar ice cap with my 8" dob.

The Indians at Paint Rock, Texas recorded both the 1054 Supernova in Taurus and the 1572 Supernova in Cassiopeia and they also had a neat painting of the southern sky as it can only be seen on spring equinox because the stars represented by parts of the painting are under the horizon all year except for a brief period around the vernal equinox. It was a hotbed of ancient astronomy. Google Paint Rock Pictographs for more if you are interested.
