38" vertical, 10'8" broad jump, 19 reps, 4.28-4.33 forty (depending whose watch you believe--4.40 at the combine).

This is a 6-1, 200-lb. corner with ball skills.

Just sayin'.

Pretty damn good measureables. You could say, almost Patrick Peterson-like. :D

he but don't get lost in his measureables. He is not a man cover CB and Dallas runs a man cover scheme. Ras-I is a tampa 2 defense and zone CB. Now as for FS I would love to have him. He just doesn't fit Dallas CB scheme.

Would love to get this guy in the 3rd if he's still there.

I think he'd be fine at CB in our scheme but yeah, I'd definitely take a look at him as a possible FS as well.

Then again, I'm still holding out hope for AOA.

Like the guy alot. I also like that we're looking into the second and third round CBs. We need big uglies first and then hopefully luck into a guy like Dowling late round 2/early round 3

For what it's worth, here's another take:

In addition to a forty time in the 4.37-4.42 range, Virginia CB Ras-I Dowling posted a 38" vertical and 10-foot-8 long jump at his Monday Pro Day.

The 40 time discrepancy is worth noting, but it doesn't change my opinion on him either way.

Those are fine either way.

Plus he has pretty nice ball-skills. I wouldn't reach for him (and give up and extra pick) because there a few good-looking CBs bunched together in that late 2nd to late 3rd range.

AOA I think would be a better CB than FS. AOA is a good man cover corner. The cowboys are trying to convert him to FS where FS in there scheme plays zone. AOA has the range and speed to play FS but I think he would be more value at Nickel right now.

Either way I want Huff want now as FS.

It's not the idea of him playing one scheme or the other, one position or the other...I am sure the scouts for the team have decided already if they think he would fit and where.

The idea that worries me some is his injury history...I think it worries other teams and maybe they helps us if he falls some due to it.

I'm sure the scouts have and thinks the same way. If a team runs a man cover scheme why would they draft a CB that isn't great in Man but is great in zone. If the same team's scheme uses the FS in a zone scheme and they see a big fast zone CB that can tackle why wouldn't they want to see if he can play FS if they can get him mid round.

Yes his injury history scares me too, but he didn't start getting banged up until this year.

One of the best CBs in the draft. I'd be more than happy with him and Tyron Smith in the 1st round than trading for Peterson.

I'm not sure where the idea came from that Ras-I can't play man coverage. Did he play some zone in college? Sure, but he played a heck of a lot of man, too, singled up with man over or some kind of double on the other side.

I hate it when folks pigeon hole players because they played in one scheme or another in college. If a guy has skills, he has skills. I'm sure Ras-I will excel at whatever type of coverage his coach asks him to play.

why do you think he will excel. If you watch him play, the scheme he is in is zone most of the time.

Look at Mike Jenkins, he is a real good man cover CB and isn't that good in zone. So teams like Tampa Bay that runs mostly a zone scheme wouldn't draft Mike Jenkins. You draft off of players postitives and not their weakness. Ras-I strength is zone coverage and not his man coverage. If your drafting a CB to fit your scheme and you run a man coverage then you should have a CB thats strength is in man coverage.

Were did you come under the impression that he primarily plays zone and man coverage is a weakness for him?

well if you watch him play you know that Virgina CBs play mostly zone coverage. Then if you read his scouting reports you will see that his strengths are zone. His 40 is fast but he doesn't play that fast, if you have ever seen him in a game.

Instincts/Recognition Plays under control and with confidence. Is disciplined when reading keys and doesn't get caught peeking in backfield very often. Very cautious of getting beat deep when working in man-coverage. Will be late reacting to the ball coming out of QB's hands at times in man coverage but has much better reaction skills in zone.

Cover Skills Can hold up in certain man-to-man matchups but would need deep-safety support versus NFL WRs with upper-echelon quickness. Has some tightness in hips and while top-end speed is adequate, he does not have recovery burst to make up for false steps in man-coverage. At his best in zone coverage, where he can keep WR in front of him and read QB's eyes. Shows good leverage and quick feet in pedal. Has good burst out of pedal and plays with very good balance and body control. Tries to get physical with WR as much as he can. Has the size, long arms, strong upper body and physical mentality to succeed with

From that report, looks like an excellent FS convert.

However, I have read other reports that say he can play in man. I haven't watched him play live or on TV, so I'll believe you on that one since it seems you have.

I've just seen what's on Youtube and read the web scouting reports.

But if a prototypical man cover guy is what we're after, Amukamara should be the pick at #9.

no I disagree again. Prince doesn't press good enough to be the 9th pick for me. I never seen him actually get his hands on a WR and jam a WR at the line. Brandon Harris, Jimmy Smith, and Aaron Williams are the top three we should be looking at. Peterson will be gone so I'm not even considering him.

I know you don't agree, that's why I said it.

And for the record, Nebraska doesn't press in general just like Virginia tends to play zone. Doesn't mean Ras-I can't play man and it doesn't mean Prince can't press.
