Early returns on our free agent pickups this year
Drew Bledsoe A
just watch Vinny with the Jets yesterday for a reminder of how far our QB postion has improved!!!!
Drew is incredibly accurate-can go deep, and has a presence
I am not sure what happened in Buffalo with the knock that he can only take you so far, but at this time he is the most important off season signing

Anthony Henry A
only one off game against the 49ers--not sure what was up with that--maybe some bad shell fish on the Wharf the night before
He has done everything asked for--physical tackler, play maker--interceptinos and forced fumbles--and excellent coverage both long and short.
Maybe most importantly he has made Newman better.newman is playing at pro bowl level

Jason Ferguson C+
he is plugging the middle--especially in last couple games-check out rushing stats of opponent--nothing is up the middle.
I guess when you dont hear his name much but there is a big pile of humanity in the middle that is a good thing. What suprises me most this year is opponents RB's hit the line--I expect to hear "2nd and 4" but more often it is "2nd and 8 to go" this tells me we are winning the battle of the lines

Marco Rivera C
gets physically beaten at times--not many mental mistakes like Gurode was famous for so that is an upgrade
No doubt he is providing veteran leadership and helping Pettiti so that is a positive

Aaron Glen B-
had problems against Washington, but for the most part solid--a HUGE upgrade over our 3rd CB situation last year
still looks like he has "it"--speed and experience

Jose Cortez C
somewhat infuriating--was pretty good after Larry popped him one but yesterday had 2 misses--he is what he is--and probably will be replaced as soon as an alternative comes along

Peerless Price--we will see starting next week

Anthony Thomas D
nothing much--21 carries not even 50 yards--ok up the middle but no speed or wiggle
at least he holds onto the ball

Tyson Thompson B-
not a veteran free agent but I will include him--shows raw skills as a RB -as a kick returner-too often runs into the tackle--shows poor vision as a returner considering he is a running back. Needs to hold onto the ball!!!! but I hope he has a bright future

Bledsoe - A - Couldn't be happier with him. Definitely #1 on this list.

Henry - B+ - Opposite Newman, he's been doing very well. Our secondary has greatly improved even with the big plays.

Ferguson - B- - I haven't been overwhelmed with him really since his job is to occupy blockers and let the LB's make plays. Ok but nothing special.

Rivera - B- - Not sure how much upside he has left at this point but is adequate on the line. Still wonder if are better served with more youth though.

Glenn - B- - Has given up a few big plays but has been servicable in the 3rd CB slot. Wish he would have caught that ball yesterday.

Cortez - C - Wildly inconsistent - I expected him to miss the GW to be honest. That should not have to be the case with your kicker. Here's to hoping we can upgrade the position sometime next year.

Thomas - C - Splitting carries with two rookies probably isn't the biggest confidence booster. Has done pretty much what I thought he would in terms of being servicable but not a gamebreaker.

Thompson - B - To get as far as he's come is deserving of a high grade. Hands really need work as fumbles kill. Still waiting for him to get into the open field and display this speed I've heard about for months.
