Geoff Swaim - C+
Rico Gathers - D
Blake Jarwin - F
Dalton Schultz - F

Other than Swaim, none of these guys should be on an NFL roster. I say go get another blocking TE in the off-season (unless this becomes Schultz) and get a #1 TE either through the draft or FA.

Missed the game today, but from what I've seen so far in the first 3 games:

Swaim: D-
Rico: F
Jarwin: F
Schultz: F- for being unable to beat any of these bums out.

I am not exaggerating. These TEs do not separate, they routinely miss blocks, they get shed by the dudes they do block, they drop passes, they're all horrible. OP's right that Swaim is the only one who'd make another NFL roster, and he'd be a #3 instead of a #1.

WRT Rico, he did look good a few times in the preseason when they just put him in the slot and told him to run downfield. I don't know why they aren't doing that instead of teaching him to block, cause that just isn't working. And the fact that Schultz is behind all 3 is extremely concerning for his NFL career.

Swaim is the only true TE,the rest I’ve lost interest in.
Swaim is the only NFL caliber TE on the team. He has improved as the season has advanced and just maybe he will be average. I will have to watch the coaches tape on him. I think that Schultz and Jarwin are prospect and I think I have seen enough of Rico. I just wish that one of them could learn to block.

If we are being fair, how is Rico anything but an F so far? He has done nothing yet.

I don’t feel comfortable with the others at all. Jawrin is a coverted WR to TE. Shultz is undersized, but a good blocker who could be a FB if they wanted. Rico is hit and miss. I’d rather they have another true TE,and not play project games about it if this continues on this way.

A+ across the board...:muttley:

Lined that out...here is what I really think.

Can’t really grade them, but they, as in Swaim has been improving week to week.
I’ll go with a C at worst.

Schultz should have been on the PS.
Jarwin can be replaced

Need to see more of RIco, but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he was replaced too.

We have not seen enough from jarwin yet. He should have had a really long touchdown, if dak would have made a throw.

TE might not be for this offense what witten provided in the past. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Don't forget witten didnt let anyone else develop, because he was the man.

1 play in 4 games does not justify a roster spot.

The TE is the most important player to the QB on any team. Even on a team like Pittsburg, with their wealth of WRs, Ben looks for Jesse James as his security blanket. We had Witten who got the job done with his smarts last year but had lost a couple steps, but now we really have nothing.

And when your WRs already are among the weakest in the NFL, going without a talented TE is criminal.

Swaim is Swaim. He’s a good blocker and passable receiver.

Jarwin doesn’t seem to get many opportunities. I think he’s probably the best receiving “threat” we have but it seems like even when he gets snaps he’s not part of the equation.

Gathers is interesting but if you’re going to play him, play him. This weird stuff of splitting him out wide and doing designed stuff for him doesn’t work. When he has made plays in the PS he was just running normal routes. Either play him as a conventional TE or get rid of him.

If I was the Cowboys, I'd release either Jarwin or Rico and go get the JAGiest veteran blocking TE I could find. Just a guy who offers zero threat in the passing game and can put a hat on a linebacker. Zeke would appreciate it so much.

Doesn't really matter what we rate them. They're the set of TE's we have. There's no one else waiting in the wings to save the day.

TE’s should get less reps anyways, but for me C to C+.

That’s the criminal part. I’m not making any excuses for Dak, but when has any Cowboys QB ever had such garbage at TE. I’ve been a fan since 1966, and the Cowboys always had a great or above average TE, sometimes several.
