I was listening to the Sportsbash with John Sible on ESPN radio earlier. He was talking about the draft and was basically saying that as of late teams have found more gems and solid team players in the second round. One of the drafts he mentioned was '03. He brought up Newman at the 5th pick. He went on to say that Newman has never lived up to the expectations of a 5th pick and that he is mediocre at best. He also named some players from round 2 that year which he thinks are way better than Newman. Some of the players are Charles Tillman, Rashean Mathis, Ken Hamlin, Anquon Boldin, and Eugine Wilson. Would you rather have any of these players over Newman? Thoughts?

can't go wrong w/ Mathis, and I would consider Anquan Boldin, but none of those guys are better at their positions than NEwman is

Listening to it really made me mad because this guy obviously had something against Terrance Newman. I feel that Newman was worthy of that 5th pick. Especially considering that some of the other players drafted in that 1st round were Charles Rogers with the 2nd pick and Dewayne Robertson with the 4th pick. Those guys were busts....not Newman.

Mathis is good, but no better than Newman.

Tillman is so great that the Bears were contemplating replacing him and moving him to safety last offseason.

Hamlin just signed a bargain basement deal after the team who drafted him put him on the street.

And any team would like Boldin, but a good corner is worth a lot more than a good WR.

To answer your question, no, I wouldn't want any of those guys over Newman. Mention Kevin Williams and you might get an argument, but not about any of these guys.

Newman just needs a better PR guy. People who really know all understand that Newman is one of the best corners in the business.

The first duty of a CB is to prevent pass completions. No CB in the NFL has done that more consistently over the last 4 years. Sadly, idiots like this one thinks that INTs are what a CB is all about. He and others are the reasons that Deangelo Hall is a Pro Bowl player- or "Toast" as most realistic people call him.

No better, likely. But he's probably at least as good. He's such a force in nearly all aspects of his game, so physical, you couldn't go wrong with him or Newman.

Definitely get an argument about Kevin Williams. He is an amazing player, and a truly dominant defender. Hindsight's 20-20, but I think if you were an outside observer, you'd take Williams every time over Newman. Not a slight to Newman, but Williams just impacts the game much more.

All of those guys would of been better for us than Newman. That is based on the fact that Newman was a top 5 pick and older when drafted. I need more production out of a premium pick. Instead we are debating who Newman is comparable to. It should be the other way around.

You get Newman a pass rush and he will look like one of the best in the league.

I totally agree with you on that. However you do not here of the lack of of catches nor touchdowns caught on Newman over his tenure in the league. Another reason you can say his INT rate is low is that OC game plan to throw away from him and go to the otherside which to me is more of a sign of respect and also fear of his abilties.
