It's pretty remarkable how much fan messageboard land gets detached from reality. Put in the Week 8 tape against the Giants and focus on him and it's pretty easy to see why he'll be here for a while. Also pretty funny how a guy who hadn't missed a start in 4 years coming into this year (despite playing an incredible amount of snaps) is now the injuredest player who ever injured. In truth, it's fairly remarkable he played at all this year. I still don't know how his leg didn't snap in half in that pile up that caused the high ankle sprain.

The Ratliff hate on this board is laughable. I agree the guy was a beast in the 1st half of that Giants game.

I don't hate him -- it's just hard to be blind to what the statistics say about his declining play over the past 5 years.

Is the basis of your argument that he played a single good half of football last season?

.........he's VERY good when healthy: problem is that he is NOT healthy enough lately...big problem

Maybe they could keep him fresh by rotating him in as the 3rd-DT, and/or having him only come in on passing downs to provide a pass rush.

Depending on who else they sign or draft, Ratliff might have to play the 1-tech; however, he could probably put up some really good sack numbers at the 3-tech.

Alot of people felt Jay was always a better fit in 4-3 rather than 3-4. So we will find out. But physics ends up playing a part in all of this. Old guys break down faster. They will need an influx of depth at DT.
