He gave his players the day off Tuesday! *GASP* Does that mean he's SOFT?? That's pathetic right? That means there's no leadership there in Baltimore...NONE!!

Leadership should come from the players, not delegated by the coaching staff. They have the leadership and attitude that this Dallas team so lacked in 2008 (and 2007 and 2006 and...) IMO.

On-field leadership ability is something that I think Jerry needs to consider when signing guys this off-season. It can't be 100% talent 0% leadership.

Regardless, the Baltimore Ravens are heading to the AFCCG and trying to get to the Super Bowl.

It is foolish to compare anything the Ravens are doing to a team that hasn't won anything meaningful is years and are at home for the Playoffs.

I also disagree on your thoughts about where leadership should originate from.

Leadership should come from the top down because management and the Coaching Staff are in a position to do something about individuals not abiding by the rules and standards that Management and the Coaching Staff have put in place.

However, you also need lockerroom leaders and a few guys that everyone on the team are afraid to let down. These individuals serve as an extension of the Coach in the lockerrroom and somebody the Coach can lean on and get the pulse of the team.

It's funny, you have to admit, because if this was Dallas, heading into an NFC Championship game, and Wade gave them the day off this board would be in total meltdown mode.

But instead we should compare it with past regimes here that didn't win anything as a guide???

Mick, you can do better.

Perhaps.... This isn't a routine practice in Baltimore to give days off and the players in Baltimore play with such an intensity there is no questions about game preparedness so they have earned the right to rest....

Soft is giving your team the day off for simply winning a single game. Baltimore players probably need the day off after all the hard play they have been stringing together.

That's why I posted this... LOL :)

And yes, coaches/GM/etc take care of rules infractions, but by leadership I mean that on-field/lockerroom leadership. Roy38 was one of these guys but as his play dimished, so did his leadership it seemed.

When was the last time we saw Ray Lewis play an uninspired/unmotivated game? Other than maybe Newman, I can't really think of a guy on the squad that's like this. I think Newman's leadership (and skills) are a big part of what helped the 2ndary survive an otherwise horrible year (injuries, Pacman, etc) and why Jenkins and Scandrick look to be set for next season.

I just think that some of these guys (especially younger guys) respond better to the fiery type of leadership than the "tough love" angle...

Sure, in the proper context.

When members of this board compare and contrast Bill Parcells to Wade Phillips, it is fair because we are trying to evaluate what both Coaches were able to do with the same General Manager, similar Players and Coaching Staff.

Comparing anything the Ravens are currently doing to what Wade Phillips and the Cowboys did during the Regular Season is irrelevant as the Ravens are making a Super Bowl run and the Cowboys are just making a run to store for more beer to drink while watching the Playoffs on the sofa.

Wade Phillips all but admitted his coaching failures this year in his last Press Conference and both he and Jerry Jones said they needed to get tougher.

Two things...

Isn't Tuesday the normal day off for players even at this point in the season?

Also, Baltimore didn't have a true bye week this year due to Hurricane Ike which was in week 2. They've played approximately 15 games straight. An extra day off at this point in the season isn't going to hurt them.

Huge difference between earning a day off and simply being given one.

Huge difference.

You lost me at "heading into an NFC Championship game, and Wade..."

Somehow, I doubt Ray Lewis & Co spent training camp prissing for HBO's cameras and entertaining celebrities.

It's apples and oranges, and it isn't that unusual for players to get a day off.

A lot of people here complained because Wade Phillips was giving additional days off to a lazy, unfocused, fundamentally unsound bunch of underachievers.

That Ravens coach has more leeway to do this.

He, unlike Wade, has accomplished something. Like his team has accomplished something. And that is winning a playoff game. Something that Wade has never done as a head coach.

Can't stand the Ravens coach but I can respect what he's done.
Learn from the Ravens coach, wade, you foolish piece of cupcake.
