With the Ravens for less than the speculated 3yr, 24 mil by the end of the week. Still think we should have got him...

Good. Baltimore and Lewis deserve each other. I am thrilled he is not here at that price with his age.

GOOD. After screaming "TEAR THIS PLACE DOWN!" at the end of our last game in Texas Stadium, I don't want a CLASSLESS JERK like him on my team.

I didn't want to overpay but I would have been curious to see if Lewis would have had an influence on what appeared at times to be a heartless defense.

Once we got Brooking, I felt this was going to be another off-season where Jerry is trying to out-guess the room again. I hope he doesn't go back to his Shante Carver-Quincy Carter-Dwayne Goodrich draft days as well.

If some of the posters are right and Brooking was a "Wade move" then I'm much more optimistic. A coach should be able to bring in his guys.

OP, I know you only have 6 posts but is not good form to post this without a link or some indication where it comes from.

I would paid about 30% more than Brooking to do the same job but that is it.

I would not have paid him 8 mil a year and probably not more than 7-8 mil guaranteed.

We can't pay for what someone did elsewhere we have to pay for what they can do here. And here he'd still be a long ways from producing like Demarcus Ware.

Sorry but Ray wouldn't help when you have no leadership above to back him up.

Pro Bowl linebacker to stay in Baltimore

By Jamison Hensley and Mike Preston | Baltimore Sun reporters 4:28 PM EST, March 4, 2009 OWINGS MILLS - The Ravens have reached an agreement in principle with linebacker Ray Lewis, a league source said.

This ensures that Lewis will finish his career with the Ravens.

Retaining Lewis was important for the Ravens because they lost defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and inside linebacker Bart Scott to the New York Jets.

Lewis earned his 10th Pro Bowl this season after leading the NFL's second-ranked defense with 160 tackles. He also had 3 1/2 sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Brooking is a 100% Wade move. Just like Stewart is a Wade move.

Brooking had his best years under Wade Phillips, and what skills Brooking still does have left are exactly what Dallas and Wade Phillips want to bring in. Someone to replace Zach Thomas, and Brooking is a better version of Zack Thomas.

he plays the same position as Bradie James...

He would have been expensive, he is getting up there and age... It wasn't a good fit. The cons outweighed the pros.

And by not making moves like this anymore, it allows us to be more flexible in coming years.

Thats why hopefully we get rid of Ellis and Williams. Having those two are like having even worse examples of what we'd have in Lewis.

When we have overpaid players who don't perform it stops us from affording those hit players who will perform. We get these two off our books, and next year or the year after that we'll start being major players in free agency again.

We already got Henry off, and its a good start.

RAY’S DEAL IS DONE

Posted by Mike Florio on March 4, 2009, 4:35 p.m.

On the same day that the Ravens finagled a deal with a long-time fixture in another team’s offense, the Ravens finally worked out a contract with a long-time fixture in their own defense.

A league source tells us that linebacker Ray Lewis has agreed to terms to remain with the team for which he has starred since 1996.

The Ravens are expected to announce the transaction in the not-too-distant future.

Best case scenario for all involved. Ray Ray will take this lack of free agent interest as an "insult" and have another great year. It will be interesting to see if they have the same ultra attacking defense now that Rex Ryan is gone.

As an aside, I met Rex Ryan while shopping at Walmart before the Miami game the year before last. Very down to earth and friendly. I can see why his players like him. I wished him luck for that game and he said they had better win or the team might as well not come home. Of course, they were the only team Miami beat that year.

who? the guy who said, after the first loss, that at least there's no pressure for the team to have a perfect season?! and the same guy who said, after the 2nd loss, that at least there's no pressure for the team to go 15-1?!

yeah, what a leader.

Maybe Ray could follow Scott's lead, call Rex and see if he will up the offer! jk this is probably best for all involved.
