RB 1/2 Punch

RB1 Javonte Williams
RB2 Phil Mafah
RB3 Jaydon Blue/Miles Sanders
RB4 Duece Vaughn

The Cowboys really don't value RBs lol. From a power running game standpoint the Javonte/Mafah 1-2 combo should be decent. Blue is fast, but as an overall RB I have several questions, so he's a niche player imo kinda like Turpin. Miles n Duece are receiving RBs too, so the deciding factor may be do the coaches value the speed and possible upside of Blue over the more well rounded skill set of Sanders/Vaughn.
Look at the Detroit Lions they had a running back group not just one guy, pulling the weight and almost impossible to stop.

Same thing with the Seattle Seahawks Seahawks they have two dogs at RB.

The Eagles won their first Super Bowl with a running back collection Ajayi, Blount, Smallwood, Clement , etc

Those teams have much better pedigree at the position than Dallas right now. Javonte Williams is the guy, right now, and he averaged 4.0 a carry last season, and I don't put much stock in 5th n 7th round RBs. I'm not bashing this group, but I am being realistic...they need help.

Blue is not some Gibbs clone he's closer to Lance Dunbar than Gibbs. Mafah could be a steal in the 7th. Again, this isn't enough they should look into Chubb, Dobbins or Foreman as some more competition in the room.

Williams has not averaged 4 YPC since 2022.

Just typical post draft talk right now.

Looking forward to seeing how all 4 new RBs pan out

I do think the overall RB group is better than last year
Question is by how much
I agree here. And the thing is, if the RB room is better than last year AND the OLINE is better than last year (counting on that) then your offense should be better.

Another WR can make these backs better - ie Allen - Amari.
If not, teams will creep the safeties up and it’ll be the same story as last year stuff to run and dare us to beat them through the air- which we cannot and did not.

I like Mafah, he'll be a pet cat, but he's still a seventh rounder.

We need an actual lead dog talent at tailback, not to throw a bunch of late-round picks at the wall and hope something sticks.

Just because Zeke at #4 overall was a mistake doesn't mean you never pick one before the fourth round.
Zeke is a good part of the reason they went 13-3 his rookie season. Zeke is a RB and RBs dont last long in the NFL. Or were you saying you wouldve drafted another player?

Blue is pretty good.

I think the concern for me is that he’s probably not your every down type guy, which is what this team needed.

However, I’ve always felt Blue was way closer to Jamyr Gibbs than he was to Deuce Vaughn like some are suggesting.

And if he is, and brought along slowly like the Lions did with Gibbs, then I think everyone will be happy with this pick in due time.

Side note, I haven’t wanted a jersey in a long time but “Blue” as a last name for the Cowboys is ::chef’s kiss::

I bet Jerry was thinking that too

Just on their sizes alone I dont think Williams and mafah should be one and two because I don't see a change of pace there. It would have to be either or at one and blue at two.

No way you have both those big guys at 1 and 2 and blue at 3 just sitting there.

The first office gave Zeke the second contract that's what killed Zeke with the fans not where was selected. At least not for me

Agreed with you up to the Zeke comment

Imo, Zeke led the league in rushing twice, took the NFL world by storm and instantly placed fear in opposing defenses and was capping off long, home run hitters both rushing and receiving, ..don't see it as a mistake picking him 4th overall, more so our coaches were the mistake over-using & abusing him so quickly.

Yep.
That's been the recipe even when we had good/excellent o-lines.
Stack those 8 to 9 man boxes and see if SleepNumber can beat it.
He can't.
So even in a best case scenario and this offense somehow resembles the 2016 version you're still stuck with that same guy once the run game gets stopped.

That continues to be the hardest part to accept for the next 2 to 3 years.
But it is also reality.

If you look at where the money as allocated on our salary cap and the plethora of 1st round picks on OL, looks to me that the Joneses intend to go cheap on RBs. I know you might counter-argue that a star RB can be had on a rookie contract, but OTOH, they have passed on opportunities to spend a high draft pick for quite a few years now. Action speaks louder than words.

I think like a lot of players coming out of UT, Blue was underutilized because of all the depth that they have. They’ve had back after quality back for the past couple of years. Sark is hard headed at how he uses players as well

I don’t think what’s being discussed enough was the draft broadcast saying there were some of our team scouts who had Blue as RB 3 in the entire draft.
