RB is an underrated problem

JWill is a proven starter, and he proved it last year by finishing 9th in the league in rushing yards! That’s not a solid backup, that’s a legit starting RB. The problem is the Cowboys have gotten away from the running game that used to make them nearly impossible to stop. They’ve become so one-dimensional this year, and it’s ridiculous. Get back to running the football and make this offense dangerous again!
Nah
We need more explosiveness at RB and TE. We have no RAC at all there to make defenses pay when they double the WR.

For this team. Williams is a very solid backup. This team got complacent and penciled him in as “solid” let’s re-sign him. Opposing defenses feel 0 threat with Williams. He is solid at the goaline and runs hard but he is 0 threat out of the backfield , no breakaway speed, no elusiveness. Look at what signing Kenneth Walker has done for the chiefs offense. It rejuvenated their entire team. Another miss by the Jones’s.
Kenneth Walker is a freak and a rare talent. Lamenting for the best in the game is rather silly.

Disagree. Our issue w/ Williams is that we don't use him enough.

If you going to have a back that runs like Williams he needs the carries to get into a groove/ break down the defense. This is on coaching.

I was going to add while Williams was nice find, and was good overall as a runner, the NFL has shifted to RBs that can add more in the passing game as well.
Gone are the days where RB's would just run the rock.

CMC finished a handful of yards ahead of Williams rushing wise, but dwarfed him in total yards as he had 900+ receiving yards compared to 177 for J-Will.
Gibbs not only split the load but had ~650+ receiving yards too.

Obviously, there's a talent gap between J-Will and the two above, but just pointing out, as you know, that 9th sounds good on paper but quite a few other backs that are considered very good are dual threat.
Williams is more of a runner only.
He's really not. He's a very good receiver, we just won't throw him the ball. In DEN, he caught 43, 16, 47, and 52 passes. The 16 came in 5 games, the year he got hurt.

He's an excellent receiver out of the backfield.

Absolutely. Would love to streamline the offensive staff and simplify the philosophy and actually have an identity.

Right now, it seems like Schotty’s idea of identity is “we don’t need prep or practice cuz we’re awesome at football and can just show up and destroy you with our passing attack”

Plz get back to running the ball and basing your passing attack off that. Dak threw 50+ times last night. That’s gonna lose you the game 99 out of 100 times
Also gets your QB hurt. The DLine knows we're going to pass, so they can just pin back their ears and go. Makes for quick pressure on the QB.

And what do we do about it? We keep dropping back and running vertical routes while the opposing D laughs at us.

Yup. It’s maddening and the crazy thing is Brian’s dad is rolling over in his grave watching his son coach and call the game this way lol

I saw those numbers, but at the same time his average per catch was around Zeke's average per catch. Not awful but seemed like more of a dump off than route runner.
But if he was actually running routes then I stand corrected.

Williams is a good player but the fact that they do not have a RB who can make anybody miss on a checkdown is absolutely killer for how teams are defending them.

Makes no sense not to invest in, essentially, a scat back if you weren't sold on Blue.

Run play called, "kill, kill, kill." Dang, it's a pass again. Wow. Who would have thought that? hum

Maybe, just maybe the OL is overrated. Running game bad, pass protection shaky.............blame the QB right?

I think Williams is a solid starting back, but he's more of a complimentary offensive piece rather than one opposing defenses are game planning around. It would be great to find that change of pace back, but you also have to wonder why this coaching staff can't commit to the run.
