We are obviously going to draft at least one RB, so I’m trying to learn what I can on the top ten or so guys.

What’s tough to know is the pass protection ability of some of these guys who appear to have dynamic legs.

Maybe we can dedicate the exercise to one Tyson Thompson, if that stirs any fine memories of “why doesn’t he get more carries!?!?” Lol.

If anyone knows of any of the top backs being especially good or bad at keeping Dak alive, please share. Thanks….

Charbonnet is an excellent all around back and is consider a strong blocker.

ISRAEL ABANIKANDA

  • Has trouble keeping rusher in front of him in pass protection.

DEVON ACHANE

  • Willing but smallish to match up against linebackers in protection.

ERIC GRAY

  • Inconsistent to widen out and stay in front of blitzer.

CHASE BROWN

  • Inconsistent finding his positioning to protect QB.

KENDRE MILLER

  • Doesn’t search for much work in pass protection.

SEAN TUCKER

  • Teams likely will not be pleased with his pass protection.

KEATON MITCHELL

  • Doesn’t have size to stand in against blitzers.

DEUCE VAUGHN

  • Not built for blitz pickups.

CHRIS RODRIGUEZ JR.

  • Inconsistent finding assignment versus blitz.

The only guy I can think of who's good is Charbonnet. I don't really remember Roschon tbh, haven't watched him in a couple months.

But all your other top-ten type guys: Bijan, Gibbs, Izzy, Bigsby, etc etc, are kind of garbage at it. That's pretty normal, the vast majority of CFB backs are bad pass protectors. But as deep and talented as this RB class is, and as much as pass pro has become a "money" skill in the league these days, I'm shocked that more guys aren't better.

It is a skill that can be learned. Tony Pollard was a zero at pass pro coming out of a college spread offense, and he was pretty bad at it for his first 2 or 3 NFL seasons. But he's actually become pretty good at it now.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Charbonnet or Johnson ended up in Dallas on Day 2.

This will be the first time I've ever said someone is way off base on here, and it's for a whole multitude of reasons.
I dunno, man. He looks like a real good fit for the Zeke role in this scheme to me. A little lighter, not quite the blocker, but he'll be better at all the zone and cutback stuff than Zeke was when he first got to Dallas.

I like Charbonnet but he runs too upright,he will have a short career like Murray.

Seriously?
Running the football, pass catching are the big ones. Pass blocking is way down the list. All these guys have to do is slow down the rusher. Not rocket science.

Zeke apologists have somehow made this a a major talking point as its the only thing zeke did well at the end.
