I think Murrays blitz pickup ability has been overstated. He wasn't bad by any means, but he wasn't great. Reading this board you would think he was an OT in disguise when picking up the blitz. Anyways, I found this interesting especially the DMC career stat.

Yes, McFadden is an elite pass blocker at the RB position. Much better than Murray. I think a few people pointed that out when we added him.
He's also a better receiver out of the backfield than Murray.
So in obvious passing situations, he very well could be an upgrade.

I guess we'll know how the rest (actually running the ball) goes soon enough.
Can't wait for this season

Wasn't the issue with Randle was that coaches were concern about his pass blocking? If that is the case, he has improved according to the stat.

Impossible.

I've read here repeatedly that Demarco Murray was a pass-blocking "machine" that couldn't be replaced.

And that McFadden and Joseph Randle were going to turn Romo into a cripple.

It's true.

Yeah I said the same thing earlier.

Physically he was fantastic at it but mentally he had some whiffs.

Marion Barber was probably one of the best pass blocking RBs I can remember. Besides 22 of course.

Again...if we keep DMC in a nickel RB role, he will be an excellent player in this offense. The question is can Randle handle 200 carries and the "dirty" work?

yes he can,he should be the starter.Dmac is the best 3rd down back on the roster.Dunbar is basically a guy without a job atm.

The sad thing is we have seen Romo turn into a cripple with poor pass protection. If Randal can get the job done I'd love to see him as a three down back.

The "impossible" routine again? That tired Schlick needed to die a long time ago.

Very impressive for McFadden, and impressive as well for Randle if he had more than 20-25 attempts.

I don't know how this running back competition is going to turn out but I'm rooting for them all. I'm just skeptical.

You are becoming exaggeration prone Mike. It's not a good look.

Just trying to match up with all the folks who've done nothing but exaggerate Murray's abilities and rip everything McFadden/Randle/Williams.

Have that many people really overrated Murray as a pass blocker? I haven't seen it discussed nearly as much as the daily "Murray is a product of the system/it was all the offensive line" discussions.

But I will say this, I've been wanting to do a little more research on the RB pass blocking statistics. It's not the easiest thing to do unless you have every game each one has played in recorded. But as it stands now, those stats are not good for Murray.

No... not everyone. But there are certainly a few "vocals" that have posted on numerous occasions that Murray was all that when it came to pass blocking and the current Cowboy backs were less than adequate.

Not to mention how any rookie RB couldn't dare hope to replace the best RB in the NFL when it came to pass protection. Romo sounded doomed without Murray.
